So whats working for you? What are the must have plugins for the 90's sound in 2014?

The sounds massively coming back around again in the UK with a handful of big tracks in the top 40 every week. Tunes like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv_cwzAI ... ture=share are blowing up!!

So far I think the staples are things like:

EXS24 909 kit (Any better 808 / 909 kits?)
Korg M1 plug (Bass, Synths + Pianos!)
TAL U-N0 plug (Juno bass sound!)

What else is out there on the synth, sampler and rompler front?

Good FX recommendations would be nice also!

Arturia's soft synths obviously.

I would look at soundfonts too; a lot of the mid > late 90s stuff used them

some decent sites.

Anyone got any Korg M1 classic piano samples? Can only find them in Logic sampler or akai formats with a quick google search.

Haven't got the bucks to buy the plugin at the mo, waaah.

A lot just transpose a sample of a 7th chord up and down the keyboard.

Found the sample used in Zomby - Float in a 'Rave Planet' pack, which is actually grabbed from this;

What's that you say? The 90's house sound is back in vogue? Well I'll just knock up a load of samey tracks with 909 and Korg M1 samples then. Brilliant, because despite there being literally thousands of records made like that IN THE 90's, what we really need are loads more records that sound EXACTLY like that now too. House music has always drawn on and built on its past - in essence most house music is essentially disco - but also, house music was, for a time at least, truly revolutionary. With the huge wealth of software synths, samplers, drum machines, processors and so on that are now freely available, making records that sound just like other peoples records because a handful of sounds have become briefly fashionable is just lazy, opportunistic and contributes to the glut of samey, mediocre music.
this.

wish people showed a bit of creativity instead of mindlessly following throwback genre revivals which are always a poor imitation of what came before.

more or less agree but i think there's few gems there. namely some bicep stuff. furthermore i tend to evaluate tracks by their intrinsic value rather than what style they portray. that being said theres a lot of shit on the radio today that's just mediocre rehashed piano house that just sounds so lazy and average
