OH god I love you, very nearly bought a new sound card for this very reason until I saw this. Cheers.

I assume you guys are on macs, I'm on PC, but can you not record from your soundcard in Audacity on a mac?

EDIT: I phrased that wrong, can you not record what's playing on your computer (youtube, soundcloud etc.) in Audacity on a mac?

I too second the Audacity sentiment.

I use my saffire 6 which is ASIO drivers while recording what's playing on my computer. You just have to do some weird things in audacity to the playback settings. I can take a look at my settings in Audacity if you haven't resolved the issue yet?

Nah, using this lets me stream live, which is what I actually brought it but its still the best/stable/easiest solution to a problem what requires so much fucking about.

JACK Audio Connection Kit (heh recursion :) )

JACK is sooper powerful… at least on Linux it is. I've never tried using it on Windows.

Yeah, you get it to work with live streaming though.

I used JACK for a bit for Audacity but internal play back and output at the same time using a ASIO driver, it doesn't do - at least with 0 latency.

Fair. I don't think I've ever had anything run at 0 latency before on any platform, though. Just low latency. I've never had better than an entry level soundcard either.

I just have a pair of RCAs running from my mixers' record output to another input on the interface.
The interface output of course feeding channel 1 on the mixer.
Can record any audio that's coming from the computer itself, or whatever's on channel 2.

A simple DJ mixer gives you quite a bit of flexibility this way. Can even record the nice filter.
