yo

so im usually ~okay~ at garagey drums, done them a fair bit, the rhythm and swing is no problem for me

always noticed that the drums (snares mainly) from pangaea's few garagey tunes always have this kinda light but still snappy quality to them. proper organic.
also a lot less scruffy sounding than typical garage drums

tried all sorts of shit, tiny distortion, saturation, little bit of compression and i can never get them light and still snappy... ):

advices??

i think the samples ive got are pretty alright quality too O-o .... unless anyone could recommend any

(im sure we all knwo the tunes im on about but just incase)

Transient shapin' probably, so the snap really does snap.

It's really good transient shaping.

yeah that ^ or compresison which does a similar thing to emphasize the attack (or lack thereof)

whenever i try
they either smack too hard, or sound feeble but snappy, or just way to light

~frustrations~

might give transient shaping a go

anyone recommend a freeware one? (im cheapskate)

might wanna look at your sample sources tbh
when i do garage stuff i just get some nice sample, and usually transient shaping aint necessary i can just playw ith the adsr in the sampler
another good idea is you can bounce the sample down at a really low volume then put it back in sampler and bring the gain back up via distortion to get like a nice bitcrushed dirty effect without it bein too loud/harsh
