Got this email
Hey Terpit,
Big news to share today: I am proud to announce the launch of On SoundCloud, our new creator partner program. On SoundCloud lays the foundation for creators to make money from their work on the platform.
As artists ourselves, Eric and I started SoundCloud with a simple vision. We wanted to develop tools for creators, help them reach fans all over the world, and shape a way we could pay the creators who fuel the growth of SoundCloud.
We’re laying this foundation by initially inviting a small group of creators to become Premier partners in the On SoundCloud program, enabling them to make money on the platform. Over time we will roll this out across the creator community.
To make this possible, we’re introducing advertising from select brand partners to SoundCloud. When someone sees or hears an ad, they’re supporting an artist. We will include ads gradually and bring on more advertisers as we grow On SoundCloud.
Everybody at SoundCloud is really excited about bringing this creator program to you. We often hear people say, ‘I’m on SoundCloud’. Now we’re happy to be able to offer even more for the millions of creators who have made it the best place in the world to share and discover music & audio.
Alex Ljung
Founder and CEO of SoundCloud

Guess that means bootlegs will be cracked down on.
And how will it affect paying users? I have a pro account, don't especially fancy adverts cropping up if I'm paying for it.

You notice they wait until the Furgeson riots to pull this. When the right hand is moving, watch the left hand.

This sucks big time.
Is it time to get on myspace?
RIP SC. Probably. I really don't want my listeners (my wife and my daughter) to have to sit through toothpaste ads before they hear my latest fart.
And SC can't even like, reliably play music, or send messages...

There'll be ads on you page, when people click to play your song, ads will play first, and every year you'll get like $0.013 for every 10k listens.

thats pretty lame, yeah pppl dont make much from youtube partnership unless theyre really famous so i doubt this has potential to make much cash, really sucks in that case. not sure what else to use other than sc tho :l

Not to mention I doubt very much that they'll be giving any ad revenue to free users anyway. So you'll need to be a paid user before you see any of it

@K:
Depends what you use sc for.
For other people to discover your music... you should stay.
As a destination to direct people to, to listen to your music, maybe you go? Rent some space on a server, you could have a website, a blog, and your songs. You could have close to unlimited tracks, you could have an interface of your choosing... with all that content/text, you might even start getting google search traffic if you really tried... haha, then people would be discovering you through your website...

well i guess its mainly for people to discover it, if i want people just to listen to it i would send them an mp3
still going to be annoying listening through ads whenever i wanna hear peoples tunes. and yeah i doubt it too wub
i wonder if adblock will work, does on youtube but i guess it will be diff for sc

I'm trying to figure out why I never liked using Soundcloud anyway, but I can't find the reason

I only use it to listen to dj sets, never for individual tracks. Always on youtube for that.
If we all chip in 20 cents a month we could get a pretty neat DSFcloud going I bet

Naw gawg, you've got your sig, that sig drives people to sc to play your track. They're discovering your music through dsf, not sc. SC is passive. I'm asking if you're using sc for people to discover you through sc, like people just surfing on sc, playing recommended tracks, etc.
I don't think I get any discovery through sc. But I drive people there with my sig, and other links and stuff.

Be a platform user base shift as well. Now that people can use it to make money, people will think of ways to make money off of it.Subscription pap as with YouTube.

Well they clearly think they aren't replaceable, YouTube pulled the same shit and they're just as dominant as before. Most people will accept it and move on cause its easier than moving to a lesser known competitor.
Guess Four Tet/Text wont be on there for very long!

i spose. but i think a lot ppl find me thru me commenting on ppls tracks, followin ppl etc as well. also have a lot of tunes up on blogs' soundcloud e.g OFD. so i think sc is actual quite 'active' for me as well

"By uploading this track to soundcloud you accept the following terms and conditions....."
Yeah explicit consent means fuck all.
