Online production courses - advice please

Ok, so I've been teaching myself (with the help of this forum) for around 7 years now. Over the years I've skipped over aspects of production I found to be boring or not relevant to me or my style of music; I've now realised that these aspects are essential for producing quality tracks.

For this reason I feel the best thing for me to do is to go back to basics; this time I can skip over the aspects of production that I feel comfortable with and know I can already do, and focus on the more technical aspects that I previously shunned.

I've recently bought myself a copy of Ableton Live 9 Suite, so I'm going through a bit of a learning curve getting to grips with a new DAW - although it pretty much does the same as any other DAW, just with other functions also.

I've decided that the best route for me to go down is to complete some kind of course, specific to Ableton. I don't have a massive amount of cash available due to buying Ableton and a few synths, therefore I am on a BUDGET!

I've been looking at Sonic Academy, and from what I can see their courses are very reasonably priced.

Does anyone have any experience with their courses? Are they worth doing?

If anyone has any other courses they can recommend I'd be grateful to hear which ones.

Many thanks!

I've heard good things about Sonic Academy courses. Don't they have some free trial tutorials so you can get a feel for yourself if it would be your thing?

Also in before RTFM and "Just make music"

Good luck on your quest to improve your production skills! :)

Cheers man - yeah just seen they have a few free 'courses' - definitely going to try some of them out to get a feel for the tuition.

I'm sure the RTFM and "Just make music" comments will follow!

The thing is, I'm a bloke, I can't stand reading boring manuals - I'm the same when it comes to putting together a flat pack! And as for just make music; I've been doing this for about 7ish years, just feel like I need an extra bit of guidance over certain aspects of production. If I had the money I'd get myself on a Point Blank course - but they're fucking expensive man! I don't have several grand laying about! lol

Cheers again!

I've been doing this electronic music thing about as long as you have w/o any previous background except DJing a bit (mostly just for myself/house parties years ago) and have a voracious appetite for preformed and recorded music of all sorts.

About six months ago I also felt the need to get some specific guidance beyond the typical youtube tutorials, forum production banter and decent written guides scattered here and there. Not exactly courses, but Groove3 does really great tutorials on specific software and production techniques. The tutorials are expensive to buy a la' carte, but you can get an unlimited access membership for 15 dollars a month, cancel any time. I had a membership for about 6 months and watched a ton of tutorials that helped me a lot.

Geez. Give me a quarter of what you're paying for any online production school and I'll teach you for life. Through skype, giving you sessions, lessons etc.

I'm using Ableton Live 9 Suiteee

It wasn't too bad there was a lot of good and bad regarding the courses taken there & people that attended/taught. If i made a thread about my opinion it would be a couple pages long honestly. Made a lot of good connections and learned some great things.
