I know some of us here have producing before the dubstep movement started.

what was the genre that made you wanna get into production?

or did dubstep pop your proverbial production cherry?

Same here, I have a pop at most things, although my fave genre is Progressive Trance but Dubstep is kind of interesting to me.

Hip hop kicked it off for me, was always trying to go slower and more swung out with more bass weight so dubstep just fit the bill of what music i really dug and enjoy producing

Mostly Industrial/Techno/Acid Techno/Post-Punk Art Electro, although I still make more of that than Dubstep.

Ive always been on the verge of learning how to make hiphop..or some grime music, but dubstep came along and got me off my ass. Still haven't completed a song but ive learned a hell of a lot..and now all music is much more interesting to listen to because of it.

DnB for a few years. Was always a tad self concience of my tunes because of the rediculous standard of DnB. Fingers crossed dubstep wont go the same route v. your tunes are just "never good enough"

It'll be fine if the art is concentrated on, rather than the production.

Production wars always end flat against the same dead end, but art is limitless.

I only like Atmospheric & Jazzy/Soulful types of DnB, I think a lot of the stuff today is just about who can make the biggest noise.

well I started off with Hip Hop
but slowly began to produce well - I don't know what exactly....
...sounds
In general, I work with samples and add up some synths, rhodes...what fits...
Then last year, holy - I found subfm-radio somehow....and it grabbed me dangerously... :-)

Still live in Hip Hop (i'm dj of a two man crew - we just have released our first EP: http://ai.mala-hierba.net/coehn/mhb_Coe ... ersion.zip )
In beetween, there is some music I can not define ( http://www.myspace.com/foehrb)

But love to produce, further to mix and listen to Dubstep....
( http://www.myspace.com/foehrb - check "salty")

that's my love letter...hehe

addition:

SORRY I POSTED LINKS TO MY TUNES - BUT I THINK THEY ARE RELATED TO THE ISSUE...?
