Why do IEM's break like this:

Basically, when the wire at the bottom of the cable (ontop of the L connector) is moved, one of the earphones stops working, but if it's nudged back its fine. Literally happens to every pair of earphones I've owned.

Just sounds like a dodgy connection and you are a very unlucky person?

It's one of these, so It's better than your standard "straight" one which just gets mushed in your pocket

Its just the point where the wire bends the most and has pressure exerted on it.
It will always fail there on every headphone.
I will never buy another pair of headphones that don't have replaceable cables.

^Another alternative is rocking a pair of bluetooth headphones. After a bit of research I settled on
Jaybird Bluebuds X. The sound quality is great, they are wireless, don't look goofy and last 8 hours on a charge from a micro USB.
The problem for me wasn't the headphones failing, rather the female input on my phone becoming useless due to being plugged in while being inside my pocket. However it will also be helpful to you as the majority of the stress on your earbuds is due to them being in your pocket. With the bluebuds they can just chill around your neck without being a nuisance, to be honest putting earbuds in your pocket will pwn them, no matter what the brand.
