CHRISTCHURCH / 3RD NOV / "DJ PINCH" @ DOUBLE HAPP
Posted: Thu Oct 18, 2007 7:51 pm
From its origins as a mutant strain of garage in the talented underbelly of South London, the last two years have seen dubstep become an increasingly global concern. One of the inner sanctum of hardworking DJ/label-owner/producers that have helped to galvanise the scene….Subtle proudly presents Tectonics head boss man and Bristol's finest, DJ PINCH.
Pinch was born in Scotland, grew up in Newport and eventually settled in Bristol, drawn to the dubwise culture and relaxed atmosphere that the city is renowned for. Pinch hugely influenced by the Bristol sound - Portishead, Massive Attack, Tricky, Smith & Mighty, More Rockers, Roni Size, Die, Krust and Suv. Pinch doesn't feel that he has set out to make 'Bristol' music, ‘Pinch Quoted’ “ I'm just doing what comes naturally…I'm influenced by it so that will obviously shine through in some capacity but my real drive came from London - dubstep is a London sound much in the way jungle was “.
From there, after gaining immense props around town for his thrilling, thoughtful backroom sets of grime, minimal and abstract garage, he founded his own label, Tectonic Records (telling motto: “If your chest ain’t rattlin’, it ain’t happenin…”) dedicated to the new wave of bass music that we’ve come to call dubstep. After putting out a string of essential releases on the imprint from, among others, Plastician, Distance and Skream (check ‘Bahl Fwd’), and continuing to host his ever-popular Dubloaded night, Pinch sealed his reputation early 05 with the ‘Qawaali’ twelve-inch on Planet Mu – a contemplative and instant classic backed up by one of his legendary VIP reworks.
N-TYPE on Pinch - Badman from Bristol Town! Bringing a mix of Deep menacing beats and subbed out tectonic vibes!
DJ Pinch builds his dubstep sets with precision timing and choice selection to work a crowd up from deep meditation vibes to a full on skank mode, will a album about to drop on his own imprint Tectonic and freshly cut bench weight dubs from neighbouring producers Pinch will be sporting heavy duty fuel for the dance floor.
