Is it just me or is soundcloud dead?

I feel like the vast majority of activity is just bought and paid for spam comments and likes
even well known artists, their tracks are full of fake comments and likes from bots that you can buy, its easy to tell a real profile from a fake one
I was going to renew my pro subscription but I feel like its just a waste of money, I feel like no one really participates much anymore

I'm on you with this. But there is still many people doing what they did big consuming intelligently the good music online.
With the venue of a shitload of new artist and people the amount of shit is now too damn high

Still mixcloud is free and paying 100$ for soundcloud lel..

With the changeover in their setup/layout I almost never open SC any more: I used to open it daily and found great tracks - now all I get is a bunch of house bullshit and mediocre sponsored mixes. Still viable as a hosting platform for embedding, but not something to spend time on.

I am heavily re-considering my paid subscription as well. Their war on copyright material is a problem. I made an account on mixcloud but man...it seems so dead there too.

lmao... every popular track on Soundcloud:
1. Intro
2. "1, 2, 3, JUMP!"
3. 4/4 Distorted kick

It continues to work for my purposes - a place to send people to listen to my music. For free. All the fake bullshit on there is inevitable. It is the way of the web. New company offers neat service, people come to it, company tries to monetize the service, people flee.
We're at the flee stage.

Sadly, that is so true...

Yes because Soundcloud is about comments.
Its about having all your music in a hub where you can easily embed/share. Privately host music what isn't 'that' easy to steal and having statistics to see a majority of your fan base is.
I pay around 100gbp a year for webspace what could handle my soundcloud traffic (bandwidth wise) then i'd have to invest time and/or money on web design/maintance/security/statistic software, lets say that is another 50-150.
So rounding off, 200 a year just to host your own music outside of closed platforms opposed to the 70 that the highest pro plan is.
If you're that angry at a service which, when even using the free platform would cost you a sum to host independently, then I don't know what to say or do.

Pretty much this. If you don't like the community/social aspect ignore it or actively try to change it. SoundCloud aren't responsible for its users being twats.

Once they went to reposting, it was hard enough to follow artists I was interested in. Now sponsored links in there? That is on SC. I mean, they do need to be profitable. I respect that. But I don't want to see that. SC does nothing for me other than host my music. If they do more fuckery, I'll just host it myself. It would be a hassle, but fuckit. I do like the social interaction on tracks. I love that part of sc. I like being able to comment at specific times, about specific events in the music, or I just like being able to thumbs up someone. And I like hearing the same from other people. I just think they're going to have to make serious compromises to stay afloat, and when that happens, it is myspace time.

Ok. I'll give you those for sure. Reposting is horrid. Sound Cloud could be really cool...but between them having to be profitable and the culture driving the users, ain't gonna happen...I'd guess...

how is one expected to have their music validated without comments and reposts tho?
I feel empty inside without the reposts

The gold is there-you just need to sift through the mud to find it
