Keeping Your Music Collection A Secret...

There are many artists unknown and it seems counter productive in supporting them but if you told everyone the tracks in your setlist perhaps everyone would start using the same tracks and then you would have to change your set...

My question is what do you do? If your like me and like to keep the artists I know a secret so they don't ruin the magic of my own set you probably think of ways you can avoid others finding out who is being played when your performing;

1. Detune the original song so that those phone apps can't recognize the song

2. Use very little of each song so they have no time to figure out who it is

3. ? (your idea?)

But then again, maybe no one cares? It seems very selfish but if you have good enough music of your own along with others music you will only be supporting them through your own music...

Please share your thoughts and feelings and by all means if you think what I am doing is wrong, tell me 8)

I just pitch everything way down till it sounds like shit; that way no one listens to what im playing so they wont figure out my secret weapons.

Lol there is some legitimate minor annoyance if you are a massive name DJ,

Martyn @ 1hour 3mins: http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/lect ... eat-depths

"cover the label" thing

Me and you? i'd worry more about not fucking up the mixing tbh

Why play a tune out if you don't want people to know about it

Touche! I stand corrected. I haven't ACTUALLY performed and this is something I was just thinking at work, I thought some dj's kept their tracks a secret but it does seems counterproductive for everyone. Thanks again

They do. Some DJ's don't mind sharing tracks some do.

Some DJs will keep their mixes untracklisted, possibly because labels don't want it announced yet, or because they don't wanna trawl through a mix naming them all up. But for the most part, if you're a normal guy you're either playing music that has been released or you're playing it to promote it, and both times you wanna let people know what you're playing.

or make your own edits or smth

isn't the answer to this just have some dubs so you know other people can't have all the tunes from your set

This. If youre worried about people copying your sets then hit producers up for dubs. Dunno why you wouldnt wanna credit the artists though? The most successful/influential djs are all about pushing artists n promoting the scene imo

I have some records where I literally don't know who the artists are and what the tracks are called, other than that I'd always be happy to let people know what I'm playing
