Oh I have started to believe in the existence of a god - something which I wouldn't have tought possible up until 2 years ago - I just don't believe in the doctrines of the church or other currently existing forms of religion. Simply because they are not based upon the truth.
Now I know that most people don't want to hear this stuff, because it would ultimately result in the destruction of entire belief systems that you've probably had for most, if not all, of your life. And I completely understand that. Two years ago I would've reacted the exact same way.
I just hope that more people will start to open their eyes and actually look into what they're being told and thaught without instantly accepting it as fact or the truth.
And again, let me stress that when I say that you shouldn't accept or believe things at face value, that also means that you shouldn't instantly believe what I am saying. Of course not. I'm just a dude with an account on an internet forum.
All I'm saying is that people should do their own research, and from that draw their own conclusions.
Let me share a little example about the basis of the theory of evolution that should hopefully raise some questions.
And please, try to ignore your initial gut reaction when reading this. This information has been so imbedded into our current beliefs that it is very hard to think otherwise or even question it. I know. But please just try to set those beliefs aside for a second and really
think about it.
Now then, let's take a look at the geological time scale. I assume we've all seen it in some form or another.
Now, what is this based on? The discovery of fossils and the dating of these fossils.
But how do we date these fossils? How do we determine the age of a fossil?
We do this by looking at the layer of earth that it was contained in upon recovery.
Sounds fair, right?
But how do we date the layers of earth? If we date a fossil by looking at the layer of earth it was in, we obviously need to know, or be able to determine, the age of this layer.
Well, this is done by looking at the fossils that the specific layer contains. Every layer has been given it's own index fossils by which the age of the layer of earth can be determined.
Now how many people do you think actually think about that upon hearing or reading this information? This stuff is in textbooks and is being taught to kids all over the world from a very young age. Most people therefore see it as fact and would never even think about questioning it.
But let's just stop and think about it for a second. We determine the age of a fossil by looking at the layer of earth it was in, but the age of this layer of earth is determined by looking at the fossils it contains...
That's called circular reasoning.
Now some could say that there is another method of dating fossils and organisms widely being used today called carbon dating, or C14 dating. Which is indeed the case.
But why this is still being used today is an absolute mystery to me as it's already been proven to be heavily inaccurate.
For instance, an Arkansas anti-evolution bill that missed being passed stated that when the frozen remains of a vollosovitch mammoth were found, the lower leg of the animal was carbon dated as being roughly 15,000 years old, whereas it's skin and flesh were dated as being 44,000 years old.
While in another instance a freshly killed seal was carbon dated as being 13,000 years old.
And there have been many, many more of these cases.
Honestly, I could go much, much deeper into this, but I feel that that I would miss my point in doing it that way.
And I know that I cannot debunk the theory of evolution by just this example alone, I simply chose to use the geoligical time scale as an example because it doesn't require a tonne of knowledge or information to be properly understood and explained.
I also know that it would be simply impossible for me to convey to you the hours upon hours that I have spent reading about this and similar subjects over the past few years to find out for myself what is actually true and what isn't. And I therefore realise that I can't expect others to see me as a reliable source of information. And I don't expect that.
I just really wish that we would open our eyes and use our brains more often.
