The "growl" was invented in 2002

OK so most people will say Skrillex was the first guy to make a growl bass, I used to think that too, until today.
So I know of Artwork for being a major influence to dubstep especially for his tune "Red", and today I decided to listen to his Red EP from 2002.. On his tune "Rolex Riddim" I noticed at 17 seconds, a fucking growl! It appears every 16 bars. I was pure amazed, how the amount of times I've been on the Dub side of youtube (Mala, Artwork, Digital Mystikz, RSD) and never seen this pop up,

So I was wondering, has anyone ever heard a growl/vowel sounding synth (except yois and yahs) before Skrillex? Dub or not, I would want to know, as I have searched forums before saying Skrillex was the pioneer of growls.
