Stopped eating meat this year, but I eat fish once in a while, so I am not a strict vegetarian. I think I will go for some meat when the grilling season and WorldCup starts, but I will buy my meat only at the wholefood shop.

5 years now (although I eat fish on rare occasions, to make it easier on non-vegetarians when they have me over for dinner).

yes you will find lots of small and some bigger wholefood shops. For the last 2 years more and more regular supermarkets start selling wholefood products aswell.

"honorable lifestyle, but i've met some very very unhealthy vegans".
Going vegan seems to be quite a challenge, you've got to really vary your protein sources to get everything you need. Personally speaking, I eat meat occassionally (once a week).
There's far worse health in the world of the salad dodger, no mistaking. Went to a village fair a few years back, and they were giving away free burgers and hot dogs. Asked if there was any veg and the woman pointed me towards the relish dispensers!!!
Mind you she had arms like massive sausages though and had a face which looked like it was about to burst. Amazed she lived as long as she had.

It's a completely honorable choice for anyone to make. For whatever reason you choose to do it. There are vegans who choose the lifestyle for health reasons, and there are vegans who choose the lifestyle for moral reasons and there are those who do it for Both.
I'm not here to judge anyone for their personal choices, even though I might disagree with them--but I eat meat out of laziness and out of fear that my craving for meat would be too much.
I've tried to eat a salad before when I wanted a steak and the salad didn't work at all--it might have been a mental thing but I still felt like all I needed at that point in time was some beef.
I'll take some more information about it, if anyone wants to share... perhaps it's not as hard as I'm thinking, but I crave meat at 6 in the morning, so I might not be the best person to do the whole vegan thing.

carnivorous without a doubt

I'd give you 2 days max
The vegan thing has to be done properly, but done properly I always feel the healthiest, higher energy levels, better concentration, less 'mind' stuff going on, can get a bit tripped out too easily on chemicals, seem to need myuch less when vegan.
The key is bean sprouts if you want to balance it all easy, bean sprouting yourself is dead easy, and verrry cheap, but you have to make sure you're getting the three essential amino acids, and some vegans can get B12 deficieiency if they're not careful, never had myself, as for a lot of vegans, not sure they understand about how B12 is produced really, cause I don't have a lot of soya which a lot of people use to compensate.

15 years and countin' will NEVER eat meat again (excepting climate change Armageddon or something). Started eating fish when I started going to the gym, gotta get protein somehow. But as far as eating the belly of a cow or pig again, there's no going back for me.

I found Leslie Kenton's Raw Energy invaluable for the science side of stuff.
There's also one chapter in there that's really fascinating, in that it seems when women go vegan they no longer have periods and all the grief that goes with it or if they do minimal compared to before going vegan, and the research shows quite clearly that it isn't about something missing, but the actual negative side effects of a dairy animal diet on biology.
