Understanding music through different sized speakers

Fairly simple and short question but does understanding how music transfers throughout different sizes and types (eq'd or not) of speakers understanding how the music sounds in each speakers?
having listened to my friends rokit 5's from my focal cms 65's what do you think of considering that 5's might be a more realistic sound? Now I know that sounds totally opposite of true but for me, I am noticing how poorly mixed tracks have no bass in them and in the well mixed tracks (usually the high regarded artists) it retains it better.
Maybe even smaller will make it even clearer? I started with rokit 8's and down to 6.5's I heard the more clearer difference and how I found the less bass the speaker has, the more the well mixed tracks are more obviously mixed better and the poorly mixed tracks sound obviously less well mixed because they don't seem to retain their frequencies well. What do you think?
