how can u not be feeling them?
from working with Lydia Lunch through to William Hooker to The Boredoms and beyond!
Sick band, tho must admit i feel the earlier stuff more and the recent band stuff not so much since Washing Machine, but Lee Ranaldo and Thurstons solo work is still incredible.
Thurston even worked out a whole new way of writing music to be able to use a 30 piece distorted guitar ensemble!
also Lees tape loop stuff is next!

this was the first sonic youth album i bought! schizophrenia! nevertheless the album which did it for me was the whitey album they put out under the name ciccone youth. to me the tune macbeth killed (and still kills) everything. someone needs to do a remix of that one!

i have posted the video for it a few weeks back but here it is once again:

i know what your thinking of and ye Glenn Branca prob had to come up with some interesting ways of writing his scores, but i was talking bout the solo project Thurston did were he played most of the guitars and scripted the whole thing in the sleeve artwork, cant remember the title, if it even had one lol. will have a dig around see if i can find it.
Glenn Branca was sik btw, saw him @ south bank one year, was amazing

Sonic Youth :)

I know i am going to sound like i am one of those "i was there" types but what the hell -- -saw em on their first tour and there were like 50 of us in the audience. It was quite funny because they were diff than the standard hardcore punk bands we were seeing at the time that were on the SST label and no one really knew how to respond to their brand of noise.

I love the albums -evol, day dream nation and sister the most.

I have also taken to collecting the experimental stuff they have done recently where they play compositions by john cage, steve reich etc...

well i for one am impressed dub-u!!! tell us more!

i am a sy obsessive too... i actually like the geffen stuff and the later albums almost as much as daydream nation etc, albeit in different ways... 'murray street' in particular is a great example of how they're still relevant. i found 'a thousand leaves' slightly hard work but still absolutely rinsed it anyway :)

i spent most of my teenage years watching bands who *wished* they were sonic youth.. bands like urusei yatsura, ikara colt, etc. i love them too though, don't get me wrong. far better to worship thurston moore than robert plant innit!

Always loved 100%, and there are a few other tracks I like a lot.
Never really got into them on the whole for some reason though

been a huge fan forever.
bad moon rising is a definite all time favorite, but for some odd reason NYC ghosts and flowers is firmly one of my favorites.

love them.
