Renoise makes me cry.

I dunno if it's because I'm running a mac or what, but I cannot get any VSTs to work with renoise, whether they're .dll or .vst. And frankly, it's pissing me off.

what kinda of vsts you using? im on a mac (older G4 powerbook) and it runs fine for me with vsts. your not trying to use like, native cubase vsts or anything are you?
cause that dont work.
be more specific and maybe someone here can help you out. I'd hate for you to give up on the the best sequencer ever because you couldnt get it to host your vsts.

Well, here's what's up. I'm on an intel-based mac, if that makes a difference. (quad core ftw) Not using any native VSTs, just random shit I've jacked from the intertrons, which is probably a good reason for my frustration. If that's the reason, I'd love long time whoever gave me some good reputable (free) VSTs that would work. Again, I'm new to producing, but I've figured out the joy of a sequencer paired with sampler, even though my sounds suck. Also, I'm running everything virtual until I can afford hardware.

hmm, well what vsts specifically are you using? make sure they work on a mac too, because a lot of free vsts are released for pc only (sadly).
i would just make sure they're installed correctly. theres a specific place in your library folder to install them.
root/library/audio/plug-ins/VST
etc... check that they are in this folder. that should do it really...
free vsts can be great, theres some really good ones out there, but sometimes you get what you pay for

Yeah, I put everything in that folder, not sure what's up now... Kinda sucks honestly. I've enjoyed using Renoise, but no free VSTs is definitely gonna put a damper on the fun. So, if anybody knows some mac VSTs that I could play with, I'd love to hear about it.

my suggestion is to just break down and snag a pc or build one
running renoise isn't that resource heavy so you can build a box for it for cheap
otherwise post problems on bug section renoise forum

Yeah. I'm thinking not. I might run either a virtual machine or cracked logic. (I dunno, my dad's pretty anti-piracy, so yeah.) Also, I'm not a big fan of warez.

well honestly you can build a quality pc running renoise for a couple hundred bucks
far as piracy thats up to you
i run a bunch of plugins i wouldnt be able to afford due to exhorbatent pricing otherwise

What version of Renoise is it? Did you try another one?
Also, is it legit, demo or warez setup? If it's warez, try the demo and if the problem persists go ask the
official forum, best place to get sorted.

imo no reason to warez renoise since its so damn cheap and close to free lifetime updates

It's demo, but I think it's like one version behind >_>

dude you need to be more specific with your problem.
you cant get vst instruments to work.
What EXACTLY is the problem?
Have you installed them on your machine correctly?
Do you know how to load a VST in Renoise?
Answer these questions and we can move on and fix your issue.
This is nothing at all about being on a mac or pc. Renoise is cross platform.
This is to do with not knowing how to use a piece of software.
So, answer these questions and then I can help you.
Peace

As far as I know, everything's been installed properly. I'm not too sure about loading a VST in renoise, a mate said to just put em all in the VST plugins folder, and they'll show up in that thing on the bottom where you can load an instrument or whatever. Again, I wish I could show you, that'd make everything simpler.

Am I having a blonde moment here or are you not trying to load a VST instrument from the Instrument Settings tab?
Go to your Renoise preferences and specify the VST folder. Once you've done that, then you can assign VST effects to a channel from the menu in the bottom left, or load a VSTi by going to the VST menu on Instrument Settings.

Actually, I'm not TOO sure what's up. I've specified the folder and all that crap, just not getting much out of it. There's just no instruments appearing in the instrument settings tab.
EDIT: And I'll be damned if the only thing I've gotten to work is... Absynth, which costs more than I'll make in a lifetime if I keep doing the whole unemployed thing.
