Ultrasone Proline 750. Two Oh One recomended these to me, (big ups man, best bit of advice i've had starting out) absolutely brilliant phones.

They don't work like normal headphones, they kind of create an artificial surround sound, somtimes sounds like you are hearing stuff from speakers in front of you.

i can't believe those beyer dynamics go down to 5hz. even if they did (which they blatantly don't) you can't hear or feel that low.

i'd say go for the akg studio ones, my mate had a pair and they sound good and also look pretty stylish.

Glad you're liking those, mate! :) I'm absolutely in love with mine. 2 pairs, just in case. pricey, but at least you're not forever guessing what's actually going on in the mix. I always think your monitoring chain should be where you put the money, not the synths and plugins. Worth it for peace of mind.

:)

I still scare myself if I've got a room verb on a certain sound and listen to it soloed. I think it's coming out of the monitors.

I don't know what's good in the range the original poster wants, though. Hmmm.

Absolutely brilliant, can't really afford 2 pairs, but i would if i could. That's why i'm using almost entirely freeware...

Although i managed to get mine for around 150 quid, which is slightly above the price range given if we are talking american dollars, but i would say worth it.

Yeah, but at least you can hear your freeware! You'll be able to hear what's happening and tweak it to sound good. :) I know plenty of people with lots of expensive software who are monitoring through a shitty system. That seems utterly crazy and ass backwards.

150 seems like a good deal, actually. Psychologically, at least (ignoring exchange rates, etc).

5hz feels like someone is digging in your ear with a fucking cotton bud. Of course you can feel it.... but why would you want too ? :)

Get the Beyers IMO. They are heavyweight.

you reckon you can feel 5hz? im not arguing btw. i'm intruiged, five cycles a second is next to nothing, i can't imagine many speakers or any headphones could produce that, let alone humans hear it.

it's probably a typo and the phones go down to 50hz anyway

You can hear the sound from 15-20hz upwards depending on how shit your hearing is but mostly how young you are. (younger the better)

But actually my above post said you can FEEL lower than that. With those bayers it feels like i said, like someone is pumping your ear. You might not hear the base but you certainly feel the air pressure.

madness, so those cans actually produce 5hz? i find that hard to believe considering most subs cut off at 20hz. and surely its bad mastering if you don't high pass everything below the human hearing range 20hz-20khz? i'm happy, i've still got good hearing, i did a test and its fine :D

Yeah but like i said it's rumbling air pressure that low. I roll off the sub frequencies but that doesn't mean they dissapear completely. You still have some lower frequencies in operation no matter what you do. I know for sure that in room2@fabric their main bassbin is definitely going down below 20hz and into the serious trouser flapping frequencies.

If you run a spectrum analyzer on a vinyl you will see frequencies ranging from 1hz upwards......

I use BeyerD DT990 Pro's. £80
I think they are fantastic, quite a flat response, comfy and not pricey.
