hi guys, this isn't a production question but i'll ask nonetheless. all i'm trying to do is save a live set that me and my mate have been working on on his laptop onto a usb stick so i can put it onto my laptop.

but we can only save the live set, without all the samples -- for some reason ableton hasn't automatically created a 'sounds' folder collecting all the various samples we've used, and even when we go to manage files / collect & save or 'collect into project' etc it doesn't collect all the samples together. it's really fucking annoying, as the little guide thing in ableton says that, whenever you save a live set under a new name, it automatically creates a project folder with all the samples in, but it just doesn't seem to do it for some reason. Anyone got any ideas? At the moment our only option is writing down all the samples and their locations and then manually finding them all, which is obviously a bit annoying.

i'm sure it's something really obvious which we're not doing but if anyone can enlighten me i'd be mighty grateful. cheers

this is long shot it sound's like you've probably checked it, in live 7 there's a little 'factory samples from library' button in the dialog you get to by clicking File -> 'Collect All and Save' . have you checked that?

me and a mate have had no trouble shifting tunes between ourselves.

i can't check it now as i'm at work but i don't remember getting that option. When we went to file/collect all and save, we just got a box saying something like 'do you really want to self-contain the live set?', we just clicked yes but it didn't seem to do anything. it definitely didn't save all the samples into a project folder or anything... we can't even create a project folder. unless it's saving the folder somewhere really random so that we can't find it, but we searched pretty extensively and found nothing.

ah, just checked the ableton forums and i think i've worked it out. apparently ableton only makes project folders with all the samples etc in if you save the set outside of the library folder... so i guess i'll try saving it to my desktop and see what happens...

Hi Farina,
I use a slightly earlier version of Ableton than you but it should be the same... for what it's worth. Save your project in its own folder in a place on your hard drive that you designate for audio projects (desktop's ok, but its good to have a more formal system that suits your way of working).
When you go to save your work, get into the habit of selecting File/Save Set Self-Contained. There you have it. Everything will be in that one folder. Assuming there's enough room on the USB (if not burn a CD-R) just copy the whole folder over. Hope this helps.

highlight your track then go to the file menu and click on collect all and save
it bwill make a folder containing all your samples used in the track
