'2d' skream

this tune has received glowing praise from the authority, boomkat:

'2d'. It's the track that's been wowing folk ever since it first popped up on the dancefloors and the innovative mix of Bytes-era Black Dog style electroid nonsense combined with Skream's unique sense of rhythm is sure to push him up and over the fences of one bulging genre. The dubstep tune of the year already and we're not in February yet?
if I'm not mistaken isnt this track just a preset in reaktor 5 synth BlueMatrix with a drum track over it? anyone ever use the program reaktor? i love seeing boomkat cream themselves over weak shit. i dont even think that tune is dubstep. unless im mixing up the songs.

yes, it's a preset. yes, this has been debated to death. yes, it is still dubstep, unless someone in the few hours i was away from the forums has anointed you supreme authority over dubstep. yes, it still rocks a dancefloor. no, i don't really care that it's a preset.

still.. shouldn't do many presets if ur trying to enlighten ppl to ur creativity. It is a tune, and maybe we should just recognise the art of hearing a sound and making it dubstep. I dunno. i hate discussing things on here. Too many words about things that shouldn't really need discussion. Hope this forum doesn't kill dubstep. Would be a shame.

When i found the preset and recognised the tune i laughed hard. He takes a preset and then sticks a beat on. Using presets isn't a bad thing, everyone does it to some extent but to use a preset as the main element is purely bait. At least mash it up and do something with it.

skream openly admits it was a preset (it's a jean michele jarre preset btw) and i think i remember hearing something that said he wasn't sure about releasing it (i may be making that last bit up). yeah it's not that creative but it's still a good tune, don't really see how using a preset is any different to just sticking a dancehall over a tune like seems to be popular these days.

this discussion has been done to death already http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=23295

first of all sorry its been discussed before; i dont read every thread on this forum.

i just think its very uncreative of him. going through reaktor 5 right after i bought it, i found that preset and naturally found it real catchy etc. if i thought it was alright to use one preset for the whole song i would've used that already.

the point of this thread was mostly to point out how retarded boomkat reviews are. i think if skream released a tune of him farting to a 2-step beat for 5 minutes they would be all over it.

for me, its a big blow to dubstep to say that the "tune of the year" according to boomkat is basically a preset.

if you take that preset out of 2d, there would just be drums. if you take the dancehall vocal out of most of tunes, there is still the bass, the hook(s), the drums etc.
