80s digital dub is considered derivative of and inferior to the original 70s analogue dub. it's sonic pioneers v imitators: the insult relates to the issue of authenticity.

Yea man, check the forum. I see it used all the time for dubstep tunes.

If its done right then its done right, analoge or digital.

I dont know why people have an antipathy against the so called "digidub". If you check the studio gear of most dub producers nowadays you will still find lots of analogue gear from guitars, percussions, delays, phaser... and there are also live musicians involved in digidub productions. Imo the classification digidub doesnt reflect the art of producing this music.

For me, the term DIGIDUB is more about the feel than the actual genre.

I often listen to a dubstep tune I'm working on and say to my self "This isn't dubSTEP - this is just DIGIDUB!" (*just* haha, it still usually sounds good, but it's definitely not what I was aiming for).

For me, personally, it happens especially when I try to write 1/2 step stuff or use more melodic elements.

And yeah, dub vs. digidub is a moot point IMO - good music is still good music. I don't think Martin was implying that ALL digidub is bad, just that the term is used in reference to the differences (perceived or real) between the two. Kind of like "Man, olskool is so much better than nuskool <enter genre name here>"

for me it's just like it sounds. digital dub. ie; dub made through digital means.
also check the vibronicsand tikiman, roostsman. i would call these digidub.
basically anything that sounds more digital and is dub music.

Digidub is post-Sleng Teng, primarily UK version of dub, which used digital production methods. Dread and Fred's Warrior Stance is widely seen as the first great digidub record; there are many. I think it's wrong to use the term pejoratively, especially since it has been a staple of Jah Shaka's legendary nights as well as those of Iration Steppas, Jah Tubby's et al.

If you want to check out classic digidub your best bet is to listen to UK reggae archivist and writer Pete Murdertone's excellent mix for Jahtari at http://www.jahtari.org/music/tapes.htm. There are extensive sleeve notes on the history of the tunes.

The eighties digidub sound was an important precursor of dubstep, and before that garage, and before that, acid house. For some reason digidub always makes me think if terrible 90s crap like Dreadzone or wasteman hippie music like Planet Dog.

I don't count Rhythm & Sound as digidub. Because they don't sound digital. They sound organic.
