It's shocking that someone should get a jail sentence for carrying drugs into a country with incredibly strict drug laws.

A British tourist, Keith Brown, spent four years in jail for the possession of 0.002 grams of cannabis. Bert Tatham, a Canadian UN official who advised the Afghan government was also jailed for carrying 0.5 grams of hashish and two poppy seeds into the country.

In terms of drugs laws, as time goes on they become more harsh. Recreational drugs used to be classed as a medical issue 100 years ago. Its only in recent history that they've become a legal issue.manray wrote:This sort of stuff makes me _seriously_ angry. Fair enough he should have been more careful but 4 years? It sounds like he will be serving it as well as past cases have proven.
I'm very sad for him because 2grams of marijuana should not rob you of 4 years of your life, i dont care who what where or why. This is 2008 and the punishment should fit the crime.
