Someone told me a while back to ignore the levels on the mixer on screen in Reason. My m8 told me that they are not real and it doesnt even matter if you have things in the red. This is bullshit, right?

it is semi bullshit. you should never ignore red lights on any mixer, but there is a smidge of headroom worked into the reason mixer. do yourself a favor and just don't go into reds. why take the chance of digital clipping if you don't know where the danger zone is on the reason mixer?

I have always kept out of the red. Wanted to know if it was bullshit or if I had more room. Cheers.

with that said i do tend to mix my tunes heavy on the yellow and soemtimes in the red a bit. i think it does make it sound better in reason. but thats to me and definilty aint the right way to do it.

you shouldn't be doing your final mix in reason anyway. keep everything out of the red, and make it loud later!

yea the reason mixer turns the sound to 12 bit instead of 16 bit, REWIRE that mug to somethin else, you're hitting the red cause it doesn't sound as loud or as crisp being ran through its own mixer

I dont rewire anything, can you suggest something to rewire it too?

rewire coz the audio engine in Reason is wierd sounding

anything. cubase, reaper (dunno if this can rewire tbh), nuendo, logic, ableton.

even fl is better than reason. i use fl but i record each track separately and mix down in different programs. provides much better sound quality and more control over your mix down. get into it, its good

You can Rewire Reason into something better and then suddenly wonder why the hell you're still using Reason if you've got something better...

some ppl like reason better... but just mixdown in cubase/logic/pro tools... i also like reason but still im stuck to logic now i still can and wont put a tattoo on my arm of reason

So running my current track thru FL will change the sound?! never thought of that.

I am using Reason cos it is simple to use. I am new to making music and I have learnt alot about synths/drums with Reason. I am not happy with the sound it produces and do find I get a better sound from FL but I dont like the sequencer. I do keep switching between the two and like the FX/VST's in FL.

rewire is really nice. you can take advantage of better audio engines that way. i rewire into reason and then i have not only better audio from the getgo, i also have a host of vsts that i can use.

Reaper can't. Steinberg and Propellerhead own the Rewire technology and companies like Emagic/Apple and Ableton have to pay to use it. Reaper I would assume isn't making nearly enough money to ever include such an expensive feature.

go through the reason help files, and look up the subtractor and malstrom.
they're good basic synth's with a good selection of Envelopes, LFO settings etc. the help files may seem abit long and boring but once you've read it things seem to make more sense.

Also im asuming FL gets re-wired into CUBASE, pretty much the same as Reason does. but i dont use FL so i cant definatly say.

Yeh man I am on it. Subtractor is good enough for me at these stage. Once I have used it for longer I plan to move to other synths;)

if you have reason 4 i recommend using thor you can do a lot more with it. The 3 filter/oscillator option can really bring out some growly basslines, or, if u are inclined, warm floaty types :]
honestly i almost started to think about moving onto other software until thor came out
