I'm looking to purchase serato and a laptop to support it.
However, with all the choices in the world I have a simple question.

What's the cheapest, yet most reliable, suggestion for a laptop to power serato?

I have a cheap ass Acer running vista that I "borrowed" from work but I'm pretty sure they are going to ask for it back. On top of that Vista + anything = fail . So I'm looking for the right laptop for my future Serato purchase.

I know there are specs out there, and I've googled this already..
however, I know I'll get a better and more honest response by posting on here.

If you are a serato user .. and your lappy for some reason broke or grew legs and you were forced to get another one to use serato and ONLY serato with .. what would be your suggestion?

I was looking to purchase Serato.

Does that mean because I have music software I might not be able to run it?

the only laptops i would trust are mac's

i got 1.8ghz pentium 4 with 1.5gigs of ram and it runs like butter.

i will keep this post handy as this may be helpful to me in the nearer future

im running serato with my Acer Aspire 3680 with Intel Celeron M 520 1.60GHz... i only have serato installed on it.. and i uninstalled most of the factory installed programs... so far it works great.. the only problem i have been running into is other peoples / clubs tone arms... some connections are different especially with club turn tables because of changing out needles so freaquently.... i usually bring some duster with me and im constantly licking the back of the cartridges to get a better connection... so good luck...so far i've been able to play with no disruption....some close calls but i always seem to pull it off

I got serato installed on Vista.... I know people bad mistake but i only mix at home (for the time being anyways) then im gunna hook up a cheapish laptop for gig use as 1. i wont be fussed if it breaks or owt and 2. So i can have better specs and of course WINDOWS XP!!

i would say sony vaio or mac. Most laptops are good for serato, but in clubs and parties it can become hot, and then the sony vaio's or mac's are the last ones to fail due to overheating.

Im looking at getting a Macbook if im gonna get serato and have nothing else installed on there.

Yep I would go with a Mac also, if PC then get a high spec running XP not Vista.

I used a TTM57 with an old acer pentium 4, 512mb ram and had no probs.
Now use a macbook pro so i can do the video-ssl thing.

i run serato off a 12" powerbook...1.5ghz, 100gb internal....hasnt failed yet


the ttm57 is serious, just got to play on one this weekend...it was awesome, those little skulls that lite up for the eq-kills are

Im finally running serato on a macbook and it works fine, never crashed on me although ive done some right minor stuff which has stopped the music playing in clubs at no falt but my own, you overcome mistakes like that through practise anyways.

I noticed someone talking about arms/needles.

With serato do they make a huge difference? Would it be a good idea to bring my own needles as well as serato+laptop if i were dj'ing in a club?

definitely bro had so many problems with club needles and serato, they need to be in good condition also make sure the plates are in good nick too
