Shackleton @ Optimo - The Subclub, Glasgow, 16th March

Can't believe this hasn't been posted yet. The Subby system is flesh giggling beast that is criminally under used on a regualr basis.
This has been lifted directly from their site -
http://www.optimo.co.uk/
"On Sunday March 16th we welcome Shackleton for his Scottish debut.
I guess you would have had to have been living under a rock for the last couple of years to have avoided hearing or hearing about dubstep. At Optimo towers we are quite partial to a bit of dubstep but as with a lot of types of music it is often the artists at the fringes of the genre who are doing something a bit different who attract our attention. Shackleton is exactly that kind of artist and really doesn't have very much in common with the dubstep sound as while he never eschews the bass his music is ALL about the percussion on top and is thus more about the trance induction rather than the d-step grind. We have been following him since his first release on his mighty Skull Disco label which reminded us of the fantabulous Muslimgauze and had us instantly hooked. This should be a great performance that will take full advantage of the bass capabilities of the Sub Club's soundsystem."

Agreed. Art-school wanks. You can't miss them, its the hair cuts. And although i like their mix CDs Twitch and Wilkes can be a bit much sometimes too. Last time i went they were using a Shabba Ranks accapella. We should attend on mass and muscle the best dancing spots for ourselves.

Skull Disco are my number 1, but fuck gauin' down to Optimo... I'd rather hang out with south side wiggers than the west end fashionista brigade.
Roll on Appleblim @ Fortified (Rave Cave!?) one of these days!

Why, Optimo is the single greatest club night in Glasgow history.
I love its openess and lack of trend-following.
And its good to see a clubnight full of genuine happy punters rather than the usual mock-Shoreditch wank brigade.*
*may contain traces of sarcasm
Seriously though, this should be decent anyway. Shall be going i reckon.
Although Subbie system is not as amazing as everyone seems to think IMHO. Can't beat some proper bass-scoops for the real shake-your-face-off sub frequencies.

Is Optimo in Glasgow really that bad? I've seen them in Dundee and at festivals and they've been consistently ace, no trendy stnuc fannying about on the dancefloor

the crowd can be really pretentious. the kind of fannys that wear sunglasses in nightclubs (i've seen it more than once) or are otherwise far too aware of their own 'fashion' (mullets - "oh, but its irony. don't you see?"). the type of crowd that will cheer all the way through an entire set consisting of a noise art-ists lengthy, free form, avant garde, drum solos. you get the idea...
but every now and again they pull an act that compels me to ignore them and attend.

thats a lil stereotypical..how many times have you actually been down to Optimo?..its pretty much just your everyday punter and they nly like sing-a-long classics with a big 4 4 beat underneath..they hardly cheer at noise tracks...jeezo..optimo had the Bug/Warrior Queen play years before this forum was even concieved..mad dubstep-esque live show.

I'm with you on this one actually. I can honestly say I've never had a bad time at Optimo. I've heard some shit music, and seen some amount of pretention, but I always had a laugh.
Not been down for a year or 2 mind.
On the downside, it looks like i'll be starting a new job the day after this, so probably not gonna make it down...

I'm old enough to remember going to optimo when there were ten people there, it started as an escape from all the po-faced techno seriousness that was going about at the time, I've always found it to be a good night out, and not to be taken too seriously.
Not johnny and keith's fault that they suddenly found themselves the trendiest club on the planet, and the same thing could happen to dubstep nights one day.
I for one shall be in attendance.

We've not forgotten about the fact this never happened, rest assured that Skull Disco WILL be appearing at Fortified this year
