Looking beyond the obvious Scarface samples and whatnot, are the use of film samples in Dubstep a bit past it now, or do you think there are still creative ways of using them without being clichéd?

it depends, the whole cockney geezer approach is I guess a bit cliched, but i like it and it adds something fun the song.
there are thousands and thousands of different movies from different genres, purveying differet moods. In that sense its a lot like music and so impossible for it to become cliched :)

I was listening to a vinyl yesterday. It has a Lord of the Rings Legolas sample. Think it was by Kromestar, it was a dark sample about the "Eye of the enemy approching, wasn't an amazing tune but made me smile simply for the sample. I think that film samples can be used in tunes without it taking anything from the actual music production and often it can add a nice element. The use of quotes from Snatch and Lock Stock in a lot of Caspa and Rusko tunes work very well and Cockney thug would not have had the influence it has had without the sample at the start of the tune, BIG. narr film samples are generally cush in my book, peace
