Circuit bending is fun but doing it for the sake of doing it, as in the vid, is a bit boring imo. It can be used to great effect for fucked up music.
Speak n spells are known to work well. Keep trying.
Anyway, there're very few interesting combinations possible on little systems like that. You have to get plenty of them. Flea markets are the places to get lot for cheap.

Two really interesting things in that video

1. The word 'speelunking'.

2. The million dollar question- The person at 1.05: Male or Female?

The people in this video make want to never, EVER try circuit bending in the worry that there might be the tiniest chance I would be associated with them in some way.

yeah i've broken a lot of unusual toys, that i got pretty inexpensively. with most of the toys i ruined, probably would've been smarter, and more usable to keep them in their functioning states.

the best result i had that still works, was turning this toy megaphone thing that turned your voice into robot and alien sounds, into a guitar pedal.

i remember there being a lot of schematics and tips for common toys like the speak n spell and the casio sk1. try to follow those if you are worried about ruining things.

loser in the movie wrote:its kind of like gabber music with toys
why circuit bend anymore really?
just to make weird sounds?

with the amount of programs these days you can achieve similar if not better results, maybe not as random but who cares.

daedelus being in this movie is kinda lame.

true but and you dont get shocked all the time with a softsynth
but hardware is always more enjoyable than software imho

just a bit of fun

i am planning on get my whole kitchen midi synced so when i turn the cooker on my waching machine will do my undies and in turn that should start the dish washer of while my microwave will be defrosting my steak all by one push of a button beautiful.

Why have a midi controller when you can enter all the notes you want on a piano roll with your mouse?

It's a different approach and a different experience, innit.

Bending is a good way to learn how electronics - and especially SYNTHESIS - works in a hands-on way. It can be tedious sometimes:

"[tweak] anything? No.
[tweak] anything? No.
[tweak] anything? No.
[tweak] anything? SHIT! It's on fire... "

Every once in a blue moon though you come across that sound - that perfectly indescribable "WTF was that?!" sound. That's what makes it all worthwhile. For the most part, a lot of circuit bent toys sound like Daleks with constipation & epilepsy at the same time though. It's just one more way to make noise, no better or worse than any other method necessarily, and it gives you a better idea of how to make fcked up sounds in software as well.
