im really stuck with snares at the mo!!! i cant find many new ones to work with. any ideas? safe

if your using reason, make one with the subtractor or sumin

take a redrum.. load some snares .. 4 or 5 and blend them togheter

Bang your head against your desk and record it do this a couple of times and then layer the recordings untill you get a fat snare.

layer diffrent snares,

layer a snare against some random sound, sometimes that can sound cool.

Take a load of different sounding snares from this sample pack, layer them up and eq out everything from each one which conflicts with the other. Then compress really lightly. Maybe send the whole lot to a bus, and reverb the bus lightly.

No, leave the reversing and stuff until later.

I am just talking about making a snare sound that doesnt rely on a single samples identity (and can be modified by yourself better than a single sample can)

Also, the Vengeance stuff is fucking SICK.

hmmm. I never reverse anything. Any1 know how to reverse drums in Reason? I would have to resample it I think. Fruity lets you reverse things on the fly.

yeah you can reverse it using the NNXT/NN19. If it's the whole drum stem mix you want to reverse you'd have to bounce that as a wav/aif and import into the sampler

I sometimes copy and layer a snare 1 octave lower and add reverb...

layering and detuning can help add some character and depth to the sound.. even just layering the same sample will probably sound better than using a single layer

i never make a beat without layered snares!

try making some of your own drum kits with random drum sounds you like and know that work.

that way when your flicking thruough sounds you know there to your preferance.

also layer a crash or some kinda big cymbal hit under a snare but layer it a few octaves lower than normal and reverb it. sounds dirty

The trick is to find the right sounds for the character you want - so if you've got a snare and you want some more attack then try layering a clap or something similar. If you need more weight layer one with a nice thump etc. Altering pitches/attacks/decays can also work wonders in shaping what you want.

Well, a snare you think is good could be shit in my opinion, so let's not talk about something like that as it's pointless. But just giving any snare reverb doesn't make it better or worse, that's what I was trying to say.
