Easy all, i read on this forum alot now, ive seen threads on Production Headphones but none on DJ Headphones.

What headphones do you guys use while Djing?? I use Pioneer HDJ1000S.

i use sony mdr7506 for both. love them.

I have used the Sennheiser HD-25 SP-1's since about 1994

very LOUD and lots of clear deep bass

also they have replaceable parts like the cable, the ear cushions etc

yep, sennheiser hd-25 are the ones.

they aren't good for anything except djing (imo) but they are good phones.
the sound isn't good for making tunes or listening to them, but they are fookin loud and sound punchy.

i find they really make your ears hurt after a few hours though, they press down quite hard.

I've got the Sony MDR V700 headphones.

I found these pretty good.
The headphones cancel alot of background noise which can also help you hear the sound a lot better.

And I don't agree they're no good for anything but mixing.. I know that a certain producer/DJ, one of the UK's biggest, mixes down tunes in his HD-25s.

And I've always found them REALLY comfortable!

just don't go open back and you should be okay. i've used everything from cheap radioshack phones to sony mdr-v150s and the dj line by sony, stanton pro-djs, hd-25s etc and they're all good, but we're not talking about producing (where you want open back for lower distortion levels, unless you need something to be around a live mic). just make sure that they can pound like fuck and are closed back. beyond that, it's comfort, style and durability.

fair enough, i can't wear them for more than an hour or so though, makes my ears hurt in a harsh way.
matey that mixes down in them must know them pretty well...they don't sound flat to me! i suppose if you dj in them enough, you will get to know exactly how things sound in them though...

best thing is obviously that you can replace parts of them, no need to buy new phones when they break

HD25s (not the SP's, they strangle you!)

they seem expensive but are solid as fuck. a mate bought the top end Sony's a while back - they broke after 8 months. my sennheisers go on planes and trains every month and are still going strong after 3 years...

until the swivel breaks on you like it has broken eventually for everyone who has owned a pair.

Sennheiser HD-25 are the ones to use. They are a good sound that goes loud for when ur playing out. They are also quite strong (apart from the tiny little plastic bit that touches ur ear).

The big silver Sony headphones that were made by Nasa are quite fragile. They seem to have a design fault so they break in the same spot for everyone:(

swivel is bittersweet, breaks put allows for easy one ear listening

knew a producer/engineer who loved to use these to give artists for recording sessions, especially drummers. they do a great job at preventing background noise from coming in..

like decklyn said though i would think for DJing comfort and durability are very important factors.. all depends on the shape of your gourd

i use the ones that come free with stanton decks. my pair flake plastic everywhere and only one ear works, but it never seems to affect my mixing at all. i've even done it with ipod headphones [although obv u couldn't buss them in a club hehe].

what advantage do u guys see in better DJ headphones? i've used my mates expensive ones but they don't seem to help out in any way..

there's no need for expensive headphones really, they just look cooler.
you see qbert using shitty little walkman in-ear headphones, and he's (debatably) the best dj in the world.

Lookin on buyin some on Thursday, a mate recommended the HD-25's. Seems like they really are the only ones to get. Sold! With a curly cable of course...

I can find it quite confusing on shit headphones trying to mix in a warehouse tbh. When u got sounds bouncing all over the place I find it quite hard. I like to also have my own headphones cos i am use to them. Some other peoples headphones i find hurt my head or fall off lol.

Its just down to what u r used too. Shit headphones wont make me mix worse unless they are really shit and i cannot even hear them:D
