dubstep attempt #2... still got things to learn... any opinions?
it sounds kind of different than most tracks, but does anyone like it anyway? or aspects of it?
I think by the next track or two or three I'll get something that would mix in to other stuff a bit better, but this one has pretty much gone as far as it will, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to post...

Thanks for the listen.

Liked the groove but the synths sound too clean, a bit cheesy and a bit too noodly. Sounded a bit "session musician" - needs to get a bit grimier. The breakier sound works well though.

sounds like it should be a breakstep tune, i agreee about the break , over all i like the bass line think it would make a good breakstep tune, got me thinkin of jammin or bingo,
feelin the bass tho.

haha, fairgame... I was thinking it might be something along those lines.
part of the problem might be that I kind of started with a sample I thought was kind of cool at the moment and built around that.... only to get sick of the vibe of the sample later.... came out overly "emo" or something... ughh... gotta get dirty!
thanks again for the feedback, kind of lost some perspective on it along the way. I won't post another track til I feel like it'll sit nicely in a mix with other tunes I like...
cheers

Like I said though the groove's really good and the productions there too, know what you mean about those samples, have been endlessly going over the same five tunes for seemingly weeks, listening back, changing the arrangement, changing sounds and not getting anything finished in the process. The noodle option is one I know horrifically well.
There's no need to get the tunes "dirty" for the sake of it, but I think the emotional signposts in the tune are a little too blatant, which I think is more a trait of breakbeat and trance, whereas I think that dubstep is a bit more subtle and ambiguous in its spiritual territory, which I think is where the dub and minimal techno origins show

yeah, I enjoy listening to it for those reasons too, just have to align my production with that... don't want to be like the rock guitarist playing with the dub band I saw last week! I guess sometimes it's all too easy to let the "musician" come out...
glad at least the production values sound somewhat ok to you.
good luck on your tunes, hopefully you'll end up with some stuff you like from it all

Yeah man, its cool.
A bit different.
A couple of the sounds in it sound a bit too clean for my personal tastes, but the vibe is good.

i really like it - thats the nice thing about this music, NO RULES - none at all - yea, this one is really clean - but have you heard the scuba stuff? its really clean - this would go well with that sound - and in a set of all super dark 1/2 step stuff this could mix it up a bit.
if you wanna dirty it up - it will change the whole vibe all together.
pm me please.

cheers guys, thanks for the replies. they're definately helping me learn where I might lean in future tracks.

Yeah, I like Scuba a lot and kind of thought about that style when I saw how this track was turning out, but I reckon his stuff is still more sparse and spacious, which is probably the thing throwing people off...
I probably wasn't really going to aim to make stuff purposefully "dirtier" maybe, though I think I do probably need to find a better balance with the space to fit that kind of deep meditative vibe. Maybe this one conveys it's particular vibe a little
too much. Don't want to go totally minimal either really, but a bit closer...
glad some people still like it anyway though, if you want a better copy or anything it's all yours, just send me a PM
thanks again to everyone
