ok guys, here's the challenge:


If you knew someone who missed out on jungle back in the day,
but was really interested to hear more, what three CD albums
(not 12"s - sorry guys) would you give them as an introduction??




(This is mostly, but not fully, for my benefit... I was feelin' monday's
Breezeblock, esp Remarc, and my oldest D&B album is from '99! haha.)

Maybe that Jungle Warfare 2CD thing with Mickey Finn and Aphrodite for classic jumpup/hardstep. DB's mixes "History of our World' or something wasnt bad....

I'm ripping some old tapes soon, and I'll put em up on the board when I can...

Renegade Hardware - Quantum Mechanics (1998)

cd one is a shitload of BUTTER singles. cd two is a mix, and an excellent one at that mixed by future members of what would be to become bad company. also features tracks by future members of the virus crew and dillinja. all early stuff by them, not the shitty shit shit they put out nowadays.


theres a double disc release with 1 mix on each disc by dj dara called "renegade continuum 2". do NOT, i repeat, do NOT get vol 1. it sucks shit.

this cd got me into the dnb scene OFFICIALLY. i still listen to it regularly, even after 7 years (at least once a month in it's entirety). nothing in the world touches this sound. screw everything. the 2ng gen tech step movement was the BEST. fuck everything else.

2 of the most overrated albums ever imo.

inner city life sucks. once this sound disappeared from dnb, that's when i got into it. it turned me off to jungle in a serious way. had serious issues with the genre till tech step came along and tore everything apart.

one of the main reasons im into dubstep is that the sounds and the direction that it seems to be heading in is very reminicent of the same sounds that eventually progressed into renegade hardware era of tech step.

dubstep has alot of spacial elements, like tech step. stuff like timeless is just oversaturated with sweeping pads and weak soul vocals, which is the exact opposite of what im hearing in dubstep.

i dig some early "tech step" but these two albums were both ahead of their time.

Torque is a great album, but I can tell by your selections as a whole in your previous post that you unfortunately missed the fundamentals.

Agree - that album is not really that kool (in my opinium). Depends on what you like. If you like Remarc´s style (Ragge-style Jungle) you won´t find many albums from that period. Mix CD´s would be the best.

Exactly, not all people like that style of music...understandable. It still give me goosebumps, though.

As for Ragga mix-CD's. If you can still find that Soundmurderer - "Wired For Sound" CD...taht's one of the best ones out there, IMO. Non-stop choppage!
