Im a noob too and i ant gort alot of money.

Your proberley best getting the Producer Edition and then get some 3rd party plugins to use with it,by that i mean soft synth's.

Thanx mate i just wasnt sure wich one t buy.

I would save up your money and get the producer edition XXL.. That way you don't have to worry about all the demos.

I keep saying this, but you could try Cockos' Reaper - it's got an unrestricted free demo (so you can decide for yourself whether it's any good or not) and then it's about £25 for a 'noncommercial' license (which tbh probably covers pretty much any dubstep use unless the scene goes mega and you get signed by EMI or something). Then you can spend the money you save on some plugins, or drugs or something.

I'd get the xxl version as well - in comparison to most sequencers it's pretty cheap and the plugins you get are quite good. although i would have to get some third party plugins, so maybe it is best to get the producer edition.

I never understood why people see the need to down products other than their own personal experience with that product.

With that said, I do think it's not a bad idea for a newbie to give reaper a try. You have nothing to lose. I also don't know if XXL is the way to go before trying the synths being that is the primary difference between XXl and the rest. Download the demo and see if the synths are to your liking. The demo has limitations (like not being able to save projects), but is very functional for evaluation.

The bottom line is that you are going to get out of it what you put into it.
If you want to make real quality riddims I dont think that FL studio has what you are looking for.
It is good as a learning and experimenting program.

I have used it in the past and had fun.
I have never made any music with it that did not sound like it was the product of software from value village.

All these people hating on Fl studio need to fix up and stop giving bad advise. Flstudio is by far just as capable as any other host.
Have you used version 8 if not STFU and stop chatting breeze.

What does it lack (apart from stuff that you can replace with third party VSTs)?

I'm sorry, but i have to say that this statement is untrue and wrong. I know FL users who are releasing their stuff on Rephlex, AdNoiseam or Merck and produce high quality and breathtaking music.
FL is definetely on a really professional level for years. Ok, it wouldn't be my first choice for recording an orchestra (i'd rather take Reaper for that) but for making serious electronic music its as good as every other programm out there, sometimes even better (i.e. the slicer is way more advanced as something similar in Cubase, for a quarter of the price). And as I said in another thread: it has an unbeatable value for money for a commercial product.

Edit: It may be worth noting that it’s not the DAW that create’s the sounds, it simply hosts the sounds (in the form of audio files)…it does not generate the sounds via midi, it can generate midi, it will host the plug-in, whether supplied with already or 3rd party that create sounds for the user. sure it has an audio engine...but it has the capacity of 24/96...therefore it is down to the user to make the most of their sounds within their DAW...not hold the DAW responsible.

in anycase i have never used FL, But I certainly know that much about it
