Not sure about that "marked" track - it's all a bit hectic without much space in it and the stabs remind me too much of the D&b side of things that were why I moved away from it.
I like the second one a bit more tho, the bass is a bit warmer and the over the top's quite skankable, the drums just turn me off a bit tho - too hard.
Not hating or owt cos I figure my way round all this production business at all.

the impression i've gotten thus far is that a lot of the people pushing dubstep come from a dnb background... at least the ones i've talked to. makes sense when you think about it

the tracks are relatively well produced
i just find them both a bit too busy and hard. the more vex'd end of dubstep isn't so much my thing, so im sure there are people who are more into it.
it just seems to lack the space for which dubstep is famed.

Ok......
The first thing I will say is: Both tracks are audibly very D+B influenced, which isn't neccessarily a bad thing in itself, however, the sounds you're using ARE very typically D+B, Reese b line, distorted kicks etc, it's hard not to picture a D+B track in your head when hearing those sounds. Good arrangement though, but the overall 'sound' of both tracks is quite Middy/ D+b style. Not dissing mate, they both got potential, I think you need to 'let go' of the D+B in your head when approaching a Dubstep track and embrace some sub bass and space mate, keep cracking on with the tunes tho, don't let a bit of constructive criticism stop ya. big up.

Yeah just re-read my post - sounds a bit harsh now. One of the dangers of internet posting. It's all good - big up yer self.

respect to all producers coming at the dubstep sound, just keep it dubstep namean? forget everything you know about other kinds of beats and just come at it fresh, there is something in dubstep that nothing else can touch, that's the vibe that will take it places. all about coming correct with proper sub bass and innovative beats
p.s. on a related note, something i've been thinking about. dunno if any of you are into downtempo a la boards of canada, m83, ulrich schnauss and all like that, but that stuff has a seriously intense vibe yet it's just a bit too chilled out sometimes for party vibes. what i'd like to hear is those kind of crazy, vibrant melodies overtop of proper heavy beats and sub bass. bring the energy level up to the dubstep vibe but with more deep melodic sounds. i know there are some tunes like that out there but i'd love to hear more...

not bad tracks at all, sounds like you ave a good idea of what you are doin and some interesting use of the dnb sounds there. Yea the breaks may need a bit of work just to get them flowing a bit but if these are prototypes as supposed to finished tunes you can sort that out all you have to do is experiment.
For me marked has the most potential because of its energy and sheer militant flow. Haze for me is ok but there are certain elements that seem abit played out.
Remember music has and always will be opinionated and you will never please every1, so my best advice is to find your groove and what represents you best and keep building, for every person that doesn't like your style there will be sum1 who will.
All in all good effort just keep building

welcome to the forum Cloak & Dagger. as lohan said, space is a huge element of this sound, and thats the thing i'm not hearing enough of from dnb producers trying to make dubstep. in the context of this music, less busy is actually more powerful. kode9 is a prime example of a producer that composes with simple elements that are in themselves extremely powerful.

ditto. good shit, but see above. space. space. space. mimimalism is your friend.
haze is clearly the champion here, but a snare would be nice. the other one is a lil too much, and i like my music that hard normally.
