If you've recovered from the all out bass attack from Disrupt on the recent Scotch bonnet 10", you'll probably be in a fit state for this ultra-heavyweight 4-tracker from Rootah, Disrupt, Blaze Dem and strangely enough, John Frum aka Type's Julien Neto. Frum heads up the A-side with a magnificent traditional variant on 'January dub', transferring his velveteen production touch from his Julien Neto persona into a dub doused spaced bass variation, using classic space echo and delay techniques to push his sounds into the furthest corners of the groove, creating skilled artificial environments almost on the scale of Vladislav Delay, but harnessed into a traditional dub format that absolutely destroys us, if they all smoked a heap of green on Twin Peaks i'm certain this would be on their boombox. Flip to the other side for more highly decimated dub treatments from Blaze dem, on a cinematic digi dub ting with 'Roots defender' reminding us of Prince Jazzbo's seminal 'replay version', while the big man like Disrupt puts in one his finest 8-bit bass botherations on 'Kozure okami', a skunky dub joint that just own it.
