Right, I've had it up to *here* with my Oxygen. I've been using it with SX3 for about 18months now, and still can't get my head round assigning the rotaries to various knobs and whatnot.
Was thinking of going for a Novation keyboard instead, does anyone use them and is their mapping all it's made out to be?

The Oxygen-8 has got to be one the most poorly built controllers on the market. I've heard more horror stories about the oxygen 8 not working correctly than any other controller.
I don't know why people buy M-audio crap. Their equipment is terrible, the Oxygen-8 being the worst offender.

I run an M-Audio Oxygen 8 with Reason V4, previously on V3 and before that on V2.5 and have never, ever once had a single problem with assigning or controlling the control surface.
The O8 is a blinding bit of kit allowing so much control over the UI.
To WUB: I don't know the issues with the O8 and Cubase, sorry.
To Strangus: BORE OFF!

This looks good, i need some knobs that actually work, as i'm using an oxygen which decides to send completely random midi everytime i try to use it to automate anything.
How cheap are we talking, there aren't any on there at the moment, was also looking at the BCR2000, but it is a bit expensive.

When you say 'random midi' can you give us a dump of what's being output by the controller? (list snapshot in logic or similar).. that would help

i'd have to strongly disagree with you on that. i have 3 M-Audio products and they all work great - Delta1010LT sound card, BX8-A monitors and a Trigger Finger. everything works well, no driver conflicts or weirdness and everything is relatively durable.
as far as the Oxygen goes, i have to agree in terms of hearing nothing but bad about it. but regarding their other products, i can't complain as a 3 time purchasing consumer.

I think the issue with M-audio is the software lag..
IE. something radical changes in the OS world (Such as Leopard or Vista being released) and it can take up to 6 months for them to create appropriate drivers.
The M-Audio midiman 2x2 bootstrap firmware driver being a prime example..
Luckily, the M-Audio community have some strong DIY Developers that churn out a quick fix until the official driver is released.
I, personally, find M-Audio stuff great.. Especially for the price you pay.
M-Audio ProjectMix I/O is pretty much the Mackie clone at a whole bunch of pennies cheaper!

my ox8 was a tank it got ruffed up over the years and never fucked up. it did eventually start doing this wierd hting with the pitch but that was more time, it was old, and being careless with it, but up untill then and besides that it worked flawlessly.
my new ox49 is the same no probs with any program ive tried it with (cubase, reaper, reason).
