Since the idea of 'the movie of the week' failed, I'm going to follow Datura's suggestion and make a permanent thread about movies. Please feel free to post what have you just watched, what are your thoughts, recommendations etc. Discussion is more than welcome.

Last movie I saw in the cinema was 'Control' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421082/. I did enjoy the overall feel, cinematography and I think Sam Riley's performance was great. The plot on the other hand I found really uninteresting and way overdramatic, focusing too much on Ian's relationship with Deborah rather than music - but tbh I was expecting it, taking that the script was based on Deborah's book.

I would still recommend it though, for the pictures and music bits.

The other day I watched "My Architect"

A documentary on Louis Kahn (famous american architect active 60's/70's)

another music based movie i saw recently was the dewey cox story, absolutely hilarious!!!!

I would recomend Black Cat White Cat,

can't remember much cept that it cracked me up....good film will definatly being watching it again soon and will let you know more details after this weekend.

watched Lords of Dogtown last night, the feature film that came out at a similar time as that documentary about the same topic. all about the origins of modern skateboarding in california. didn't think it would be that great but actually really really enjoyed it. best performance i've seen from heath ledger too, he was excellent in it.

watched City of god yesterday. pretty epic

I watched He was a Quite man last week.
A most entertaining film with a nice twist at the end.
Christian Slater played a great part almost hard to believe it was him playing the role. Highly recommended.


I thought Control was a very well made film. The acting was superb especially from Nottinghams Samantha Morton. Sam Riley was really convincing, i was well impressed by his vocals as well, maybe if his acting career fails he can start a tribute band
Though i will probably not watch it again due to the terrible misery it created.

It is a documentary called I for India

In 1965 Yash Pal Suri left India for the U.K. The first thing he does on his arrival in England is to buy 2 Super 8 cameras, 2 projectors and 2 reel to reel recorders. One set of equipment he sends to his family in India, the other he keeps for himself. For forty years he uses it to share his new life abroad with those back home - images of snow, miniskirted ladies dancing bare-legged, the first trip to an English supermarket - his taped thoughts and observations providing a unique chronicle of the eccentricities of his new English hosts. Back in India, his relatives in turn, respond with their own 'cine-letters' telling tales of weddings, festivals and village life.

As time passes and the planned return to India becomes an increasingly remote possibility, the joy and curiosity of the early exchanges give way to the darker reality of alienation, racism and a family falling apart.

A bitter-sweet time capsule of alienation, discovery, racism and belonging, "I for India" is a chronicle of immigration in sixties Britain and beyond, seen through the eyes of one Asian family and their movie camera.

Watching Spun tonight after a friends recomendation.

I was pondering if should go see 'Gone baby gone' tonight. Is it worth moving butt over to the cinema?

good film, really liked the way it was filmed, especially with the very quick transitions between everything and the representation of drug use, no actual shots of the use but very speedy show of preperation etc.

pretty depressing though, don't watch it if you're already down

I watched The Boondocks last week. Its an animation made by adult swim about some jamaican people that open their house up to hobos. Really funny. Recommended.

I try to make sure I watch The Negotiator every time its on FX (once a week) I know its not the best film but it has Samuel L and Kevin Spacey.
