What a way to start my birthday. LOL. The epicenter was 40 miles north of my hometown and I felt it here, 4 hours away!

Video caught on one of the local morning news broadcasts here.

Pretty nutty!

it's a pretty major fault, and it has been said that we are due for big one sometime soon.

I knew there was one there, just didnt think it was gonna be active in our lifetimes... your sitting on one of the largest mountain ranges in the history of the world right there in the midwest, the Canadian Shield. That fault your talking about is the one that runs into Lake Michigan and up right through the town I grew up in along the Menomenee River near Upper Michigan. At one point in world history, that river was wider than the Atlantic Ocean about where it runs through Niagara, WI my hometown. I love the geology of the Midwest, very intresting shit. Theres old lava flows right by the house I grew up in up there. Can you tell I was a science nerd in school?

It's the middle of the country, these scientists say, that could be at risk from the next "Big One"—and cities there aren't ready for the shock.

The New Madrid seismic zone—where Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Tennessee meet—lies in the middle of the North American tectonic plate, thousands of miles from the plate boundaries where earthquakes usually occur.

The zone has three to five faults stretching about 120 miles (193 kilometers).
