So.... breakcore?

Seems like there are lots of breakcore heads around here.
I've always been kind of half aware of it but never got round to checking much out since the days when I used to listen to a bit of drill n bass (Jega, Vert, Aphex, that sort of stuff) about ten years ago. What's breakcore actually up to at the moment? What are the big artists / labels / scenes? Any mixes worth checking out? I'm never quite sure what people are talking about when they refer to it - seems like anything from heavy drum and bass that sounds only slightly less mainstream friendly than Pendulol, though to total glitch-out wtf music.

Most breakcore does my head in, seems to be split into two camps:
1. Breakcore which is basically gabba with the odd break thrown in at 129038012938bpm in between distorted kicks
2. Breakcore that cuts Amens up into sheer ridiculousness, with a giant sine sub thrown in for good measure
I'm quite a fan of the latter, considering that most drum n bass has gone the way of simplistic jump up with the exception of about 3-4 labels and a handful of producers. Breakcore sometimes almost reminds me of jungle, where cutting up breaks and twisting them until they were great was par for the course...

I love up my breakcore! But theres a line of how 'core' it should be...
To be honest i rekon it sounds better when its dropped into some other music for a few mins, can't hack a whole night of it..

If you listen to breakcore it really don(t look like darkstep dnb... that's two very different stuff !
Darkstep come from techstep dnb where breakcore came from bloody fist hardcore techno with amen break...
So Breakcore is a poordefinined label .. it's more a community of people then a rigid stuff...
If you like the junglist side of breakcore check enduser or old bong-ra for exemple...
for idm stuff check venetians snares(but some lp have dark ambiant influence and so...)
and so on...
So Check every
Peace off stuff it's a french label who got some tremendous beats (and a dubstep sublabel called Ruff !)
Drumcorps (the breakcore metal\jungle mashup project of Aaron spectre)
VENETIANS SNARES !!!
Otto von schirack
Rotator
Krumble (lots of jungle influence)
Blaerg does some crazy shits
Randomatik Blast

I also think DLT is pretty slick. Check his Peace Off stuff.
As a whole it's kind of hard to listen to. Was really into it before Dubstep took over. I was also really fond of Cock Rock Disco. Don't have anything new to report since I haven't listened to it in 3 years or so.

bit of a weird genre breakcore. got stuff like you mentioned above then you got things like the bong-ra remixes of venetian snares which are incredibly chilled. for me breakcore can just be any kind of discordant music, but then i guess like "IDM" it's a genre tag that means very little. it's more of an umbrella term really

I am yet to attend a breakcore-only event, but oh boy can it work when they bring it in unexpectedly, just as you're about to leave.
Tune ID request from last Saturday: The track had a long, nondescript intro with just hi-hats. Then there's a low-res
Shoryuken!-sample at the drop, after which the dynamics of the track change completely, and intense choppage ensues. It's got to be a well-known one

.
edit: Huge thanks, horse!

first times i heard breakcore i hated everything about it but its like a weird sort of mad drug a bit like ket some of the jungle samples ripped and glitched hit a part of me that just jumps around like a childish fool. while the more techno sided stuff with like said about that square gaba bass can go fuck itself with a rusty stick.
jungle samples breaked =) positive
long european dance glitched = longness
saying that who has heard hard tek, it had it in my ears away from the british rigs at italia tek last summer and it murked a part of me that will never come back.

*sticks oar in*
like almost all (daft / petty / often un-helpful) genres in dance music some of it is great and some is complete pants....for me, no single genre can be in itself "good" or "bad" its the artists/tracks that make it what it is ....
also i agree Ebola's production is f*ckin hot

Cool beans. I'll be checking some of the stuff from this thread. Does anyone have favorite mixes or anything?
I've got one Venetian Snares album, Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Expanding, which I'm not really feeling, although I get the impression that a lot of his other stuff is better (or more suited to my tastes). And I've got Full English Break Fest by Shitmat, not sure if he counts as breakcore or not. That's alright, quite funny in places but as far as sample mashing amen fuckery goes I'd generally rather listen to classic jungle and hardcore, it just feels that bit more urgent, dunno.
I've been meaning to check O Von S for a while, shall get on it.
