Yeah this was like a once every now and then thing a while ago.. but in the last month, heads are just going straight to the production forum first post to get peeps to look at their tunes.

I don't really see what people get people get pissed off about all the time. Seems every new member that starts posting in the production forum instantly gets flamed by everyone. Give people a break, if I got that reception when I first joined I would have fucked this place off.
No harm being done here, just tell someone politely where the correct place to put something is before giving them shit.

i just thought i'd chime in on this one. i think people's frustration is coming from 2 directions.

1) posting tunes in the production forum when there is a dubs forum is frustrating because it makes things messy and can also result in no feedback at all.

but more importantly i think, this is frustrating:

2) people brand new to dubstep posting their very first tunes.

miss molinari said it best in another thread here, so since i cannot improve on what she has to say, i will quote it directly:

the issue so many have is that most of us did our initial attempts in private, showing our endeavors to a handful of people we knew, and got our critiques on what we were doing well or wrong then. most people's first production attempts are bound to be shit, and i say this knowing full well that mine were too.

now this may not be this guy's first attempt at production as a whole, but it's not a very good way to get feedback in general.

if you've been at it for a while, go ahead and make your tunes, but take em to the dubs forum. and before you make your first post your first dubstep tune, give some feedback on other people's tunes and get to know the drill first. it is not only a part of the give and take, but it will get you more feedback if you have been giving it all along. get to know people first, and you will have more feedback than if you just jump on here with your very first post being a tune.

if you are a total n00b to production, send your tunes to your friends or other producers that you know to get the initial feedback. as i said before, most people's first attempts at production are bound to be problematic, so it's best to get that feedback privately, rather than open yourself up to some pretty pointed critique at an early stage, which can end up being quite discouraging.

I think if you're brave enough to post your first attempts and quite possibly be put down a peg, then you should be allowed to post them here in the production forum. If you keep making all your first tunes in private you could go along for ages thinking that you're good even though you're probably really shit.
I put my first dubstep attempt up in here before the dubs section had been made and I got some useful advice that helped me improve. I didn't know any producers when I first started making tunes so I would ask on here where there is a plentiful selection.

I think the dubstepforum as a whole has become a lot more aggy over the last couple of years, in the beginning I felt the dubstepforum was like one big family and everyone helped people out without any beef or arguments and I very much liked that about it. It was a welcome change coming from dogsonacid where it's one big argument all day long.

Could we do a subforum?

I can kind of see why people would want to put tunes in here rather than the dubs section, tbh - it's saying "here's what I've managed so far, it's not great, what can I do to improve it?" rather than "hey everyone check my great new tunes, they're basically ready to smash up clubs, pm me for a 320" which is kind of what 'dubs' implies.

speakin as a 'noob' to the forum, i put a post in the dubs section which didnt get a response at all, and understandably so from what you'r sayin about give an take, thats completely spot on. in people's defence (or maybe more my own), playing tunes to mates etc aint always that objective, opinion wise, especially in terms of production tips, as more often than not you get a very mute response, along the lines of 'yer thats cool' if you see what i mean? not that i dont value my mates opinions, 'cos they'r the ones that got me into this whole shibang anyway so i defintiely want to know their thoughts on it.

the post i put in the production section gave me some invaluable, informed tips which i very much intend to take onboard, and im much happier knowing that the critique came from people who produce dubstep aswell as listen to it, rather than just the latter. also like you say, without feedback people could just continue on thinking they're shit hot, when perhaps they'r not.

you also gotta accept it you'r posting stuff on a forum, you'r likely gonna get brutal reviews. but surely if you wanna improve, thats what you want..?!

so it swings both ways really. so to speak. everyone's gotta start somewhere, but as i said so far i'v been more than happy with the feedback iv had in terms of pointers.

just time to give a little bit back now eh.

Maybe a 'Critique' sticky where people can go and post up their tunes aswell as giving feedback on others without cluttering the forum and looking like a selfish doosh

Ive been posting tunes in the dubs section for a good 6 months, and 40% of the posts are usually me bumping it .... And most of the time I don't get any feedback.....

Although I can understand people posting their first go at dubstep in the production bit, to get a idea just from producers instead of anyone in the dubs section (which I am sure is trolled by producers, DJs and just followers of the scene)

I have met a few people from here and get them to give me constructive feedback on MSN/AIM and stuff so I just use the dubs section as any people who're feeling it for 320s, i'm nice like that when I first started taking producing semi-seriously I was sick of people not giving me feedback so I made a thread.....( http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t ... g+feedback )

I mean theres no problem with bumping that thread asking if theres a few people who'll give you some constructive feedback, I find its better to speak them to them on a instant messenger so I can try out there input as you're talking to them...

Say they ssaid.. "Hmm boost the delay on that lead" and you can try it and say .. "Nah sounds wank, any other ideas?" instead of doing in a forum way.


oh by the way you uploaded it as a OGG, mp3 will be better since some people won't know up to play a OGG.

The tune is alright I suppose its a wobbler and thats not really my thing maybe make the drums more fast moving? instead of half step, have a 4x4 thing going on? I think it would fit it a lot better. Make sure to check out the production bible for tips and that!

I really like that idea, because it would also be a good tool for other people to use to learn too.
You hear a song with really crappy snares for example, and you can read the feedback which says what's wrong with the mix and why.
It would be good to see a tune gradually improve with the recommended advice taken on board. So you get to compare the original bad mix with the final mix, and see how the advice was used to get there.

You often read lots of very good advice and tips, but it can still be very difficult if haven't got additional sound to listen to as a frame of reference. Because describing a sound by using words to describe it can be lot more difficult than actually hearing that sound for yourself.

Yes, you get that a lot in art forums.
You get a 'work in progress forum' where people test things out and seek feedback to find advice about how things can be improved if they need to be, and then you also get a forum to display the finished final work.
It does work very well on some of the art forums I've been on before.
