some noob help (massive/ableton)

Don't know if this has been covered or not but I have a problem with massive/ableton.
Played out as it may be, I'm trying to get the wonky wonk wobbles on my bassline. A while ago, I checked this youtube thread for a tutorial

While I'm previewing the track (when its just armed) It sounds exactly like I want it. But when I try to record the midi, it sounds really bad, as if the lfo is a square wave, not a sine wave like I want. When I paste the midi notes in manually, it does the same thing. Its as if me clicking record completely fucks it up. I dont have any automation running that I'm aware of. Here is a sample of what it sounds like when I record. Its up and down jumpy and not smooth.

any help would be appreciated. I know massive is cpu-intensive and I'm running a 1.8ghz 2gb ram pc. Could this be it?
