lol when Hijak - Tears came out on white loads of places had "Unknown Artist" but i didn't really understand why - but in Rooted Records [the bristol shop not the website] they had Hijak written on the label
do they do it for legal reasons?
edit: sorry, i have kind of Hijaked this thread! [or maybe i've Unknown Artist'd this thread

basically its when the tune has samples that have not been cleared (its very expensive to get that done) - so the white label is released with no guide as to who made the tune or released it, so that the tune can still be released, but whoever is releasing it does not have to spend 1000's clearing samples, its important to keep the ID's of the label and producer secret so that they don't get in legal trouble, however, some record shops will write the artist name on the front in pen so people know what they are looking for
