the dynaudio bm series of subs are lethal

they are all sealed so they have very accurate bass for production

theres even a sealed 12" which is unheard of

dynaudio make the best speakers bar none IMO of course

be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it though

Scaramanga - thanks for the tip on the dynaudio bm's, i'll have a look.

ramadanman - what are the drawbacks of using NS 10's vs. other monitors out there? what would you recommend?

Well to generalise a bit, ns10s have a much much flatter response than most monitors - you generally find them being used for guitar based music. they don't necessarily prepare the track for club systems, more for other functions.

personally, im quite a genelec fan.

I´m both a Genelec, KRK and Yamaha NS10 man. I actually use the NS10´s quite a lot (without sub woofer), as the tunes produced also will get play at home and on the radio. Dubstep tunes are of course mainly made for the raves/dances, but people listen to them at home too (we tend to forget that). That´s why I´d actually recommend the NS10´s without a sub, and then - if possible - to get hold of some larger speakers or a set of smaller Genelec´s with a sub. Use the NS10 for what it sounds like: the typical-at-home-speaker.

Genelec 1031 (haven´t tried the new 80xx models) are really nice, the same goes for most of the KRK models. If you´ve got the cash though, then I´d recomend the PMC AML-1 (http://www.pmcloudspeaker.com/aml1.html) - very expensive, but one of the best close/midfield speakers in the world (with the most amasing bass responce compared to the size of it- down to 35/40Hz!!!). Try it!!!

originally i was going to grab a pair of genelec's h208's but had the cash issues and all that so i went with the ns 10s. (on a side note, a custom audio shop i used to work for had a genelec factory rep come in for a meeting one time and he informed us that their home line is exactly the same as the pro line, just different prices! i don't know enough about electronics to verify this but i thought it was interesting - anyone else heard that?)

appreciate all the input. i'll definately hang onto my ns 10s but now i have a better idea what to go for when upping the reference arsenal.
