not a big fan of the rewind, be it in drum n bass, dubstep, or really any genre. definately a 'less is more' thing with me personally, where the fewer the rewinds, the more they stand out as integral to the set and overall quality of the collage of sound. im finding more and more that there are too many rewinds in dubstep sets, IMO. STFU noob??? I agree??? thoughts????

yes i'd agree that rewinds on say a set you've downloaded and are listening to at home can be annoying, but when you're at a night it's far less so.

then again, in that skream b2b mala b2b chef show in april, they rewound that coki tune about 3 times, and it didn't piss me off. if the tune is that good, they can rewind it as much as they like

i have a love/hate relationship with rewinds.

when the tune is hot, it's pretty cool to get to hear the drop again.

BUT...as a DJ who loves the mix and the flow therein, it can get really annoying. if i were DJing and someone wanted a rewind i would be annoyed because it totally disrupts the flow.

to each their own i suppose. i play dubstep with ableton live, so i ain't rewindin' for nobody...

IMO its all about the crowd's reaction to a drop; if the folks listening are calling for a rewind, let it be, but i've seen too many dj's rewind a tune at their personal discretion, which is a bit indulgent and disruptive at times.

Annoys the shit out of me regardless of genre. The flow is all, if it's that good bring the tune back later, tease them a bit and drop it again. Plenty of better ways to give props than bring the whole dance to a stop. Heard dj's start bringing in the tune, cheers, mix to something else for a bit, build, bring it back in and when it finally drops, carnage. Fucking lazy dj'ing in my point of view, couldn't give a shit about historical reasons for it, has ruined the night on several occassions.

Damn shame as well, as many good dj's seem to do it when they could do something else more imaginative

IMO, stops and silence in a mix defeats the point, breaks the flow and (to a greater or lesser extent) ruins the atmosphere... sorry

If the crowd is asking for a rewind, a tune gets rewound, simple tings. All this talk about blah blah blah smooth mixes etc etc is rubbish. DJ's a dj all they do is put tunes on for a crowd to enjoy, its easy, simple.

rewinds are essential, but like any good thing it can be overdone

Pull it as many times as you like, but don't pull out of a mix to do it. Too many rewinds get called when there's a good blend on.

hmm, 2 rewinds at most is fair enough if the tune's big, anymore and it's like bein at a dnb rave, mc vs dj for bringing tracks back. if the tune's that good, it'll get played later anyhow... all about the flow.

Any monkey can do it, and if i went to see a DJ perform, i didnt go there to see him do something i can do sitting alone with one piece of vinyl on my turntables. I want to hear double drops, i want to be teased...heck, i just want anything other than rewinds.

Properly ruins the flow, and once thats gone i find it hard to get back into it, so i get in a lil hissy fit and go get a drink or something...

rewinds are the ultimately 'turn off' for me in a set, and the thing that barfs it up really good is when they do voiceovers... funny thing is that when Crazy D shouts like mad PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL LHAAAAAAAAAAAAP in my country&language that's basicallly like shouting out cock, or dick or penis (p-u-l-a) so i'm always on the look out for anything like that...

they can be overdone, but personally (having mostly only been to dnb raves) i like them; for me they're all about repeating the drop, which i reckon is the highlight of a track

they can be done pretty originally too; i remember seeing EZ in Kavos rewinding Urban Hero for maybe a minute, spinning it back at 45rpm so that it still sounded like a tune while viper MC'd over it. it was sick!

90% of the crowd wants rewinds everytime Ive been to a dubstep night seen? No alienation yet.

if there's one defining point about dubstep inna rave its the crowd participation, you get nothing like it elsewhere. In summation I dont get your point, surely it IS about the superstar deejay ethos, FUCK *forgetting your point and what you was gonna say depreciation*

I am finding lately that the rewind appreciation is divided by audiophile versus dancefloor massive. Personally, if a drop is huge I love a good pull up. I just hope it does not become a "sign of the educated" which builds elitism and division at the party. I feel for the more accessible massive when new recruits are standing around bewildered as they try to find a groove but keep hearing records lifted.
