Flattening out vinyl????? My '9 Samurai's' gone tits up.

Anybody got any good techniques for sorting out warped plates? My copy of 'Backwards' is too screwed to even contemplate trying to mix. I'll probably buy another copy, but any advise would be sweet.
Was anyone else's bowled? I don't wanna buy another copy and find they're all the same.

hmm there was a thread bout this waay back...
maybe this helps:
Technique One
This technique assumes that you're not in a hurry to reuse this record. Simply place the warped record at the bottom of a heavy stack (usually records). After some time, the record(s) will begin to flatten. Be sure that the record(s) is on a flat surface. The amount of weight on the record, the length of time under the stack, and even the room temperature will determine when your record becomes playable. In extreme cases, it may take years for the record to straighten.
Technique Two
A quicker approach is to place the warped record between two glass plates of equal size (approximately 15" X 15" or more each) and briefly place the record in the sun. You must closely monitor the record to prevent damage. The theory here is that the sun's heat will soften the vinyl while the glass molds the record flat. I do not recommend attempting this technique unless the record is severely warped. In other words, try this technique at your own risk - and don't forget to wear sun block.

Stacking your records as suggested in Technique 1 will lead to even more warped records. It's not a good idea to stack vinyls on top of each other.
Second one sounds better. Anyone tried it?

I always receive records by mail... And sometimes they warp... One Bpitch Control record that I received arrived like that molten clock in Salvador Dali painting... I needed several months to restore its original form... I put it in my old record case and forgot it there... The pressure between the records made the service for me...

lol.
I think there was probably a bad batch of bowled 12". You could eat soup out of mine if it didn't have a hole in the middle. I'd rather try and flatten it out first, coz I'm betting the next one I order will be just the same.
Where did you get yours?

Ah. Mine was from Redeye. I forgot to return it before they ran out.
Looks like I have a date with a lukewarm oven and a copy of the Readers Digest Atlas tonight.

Yep mine is the same, curves upwards on the 9 samurai side. I bought it in blackmarket, and miss pink who works there went through all the copies and they were all a little warped. And when kode9 played at the last fwd at plastic people, he flexed the vinyl a bit before putting it on, as I do.
So its definitely not just us at least.

Sometimes life plays these cruel tricks on us. Oh well, mine's in a big book under my copper coin collection, so hopefully that'll sort things out. Might put it in the sun for a bit if it ever comes out today

I remember reading an artical with the guy from portishead. He once used an iron through a towel to flatten out his whole set of records he was using for his set that night. I seem to remember he'd gone over to some hot country or other and the heat screwed his collection.

I've done this before and it works well. More controlled than using the sun I think.
Just take a thick towel and fold it around your record.
Put your iron on a low setting.
Adjust the temperature on the iron until you can feel the vinyl become a bit malleable as you iron over it.
Then stack just a few records on top of it. I never leave them stacked for long.
Haven't done this with my Samuari 9 yet, although I need to.
