Before yes? Depends on what u use ur compressor for!

i would be more concerned with the basic sound as opposed to any effects you are sprinkling over the top.

one thing to make your bass fuller is to do it in mono, and make sure it's panned str8 down the middle.

I generally like to add reverb after compression, unless I'm looking to compress the reverb as well. I don't usually add tons of reverb to the bass, though.

they say its a good idea to split your bass and have one low signal with the bassy elements and a high signal with your effects on.

I'd be wary of putting verb on bass, but if you were going to do it I'd put it on before compression - realistically if you're putting many effects on after compression you're kind of defeating it's purpose. It's great to mess around with fx chains and stuff but if you're using a comp to set/constrain a maximum signal, putting fx after it will blow your levels out.

And +1 on the mono bass tip.

splitting things up into 2 is enough for me lol

I have heard people who split bass into 4 parts!

You can't really put reverb straight on top of your bass sound, as this will muddy up the bottom end of your mix.

Keep your bassline dry, and send part of the signal into an effects send with reverb on it.

On the reverb send channel, eq out all the low end frequencies, or you will have bass going across the stereo field, which is bad.

I suppose you should listen to a Guardian Reader who'll tell you that you can put reverb, distortion etc on a sub because music is a limitless outlet of the artists vision and it shouldn't be shackled by the domineering, autocratic tyranny of musical rules and parameters that the right are trying to impose eh?
