i'm looking to splash out on a few bits. one thing i really want to get is a few decent filters or sound modifiers. i've heard that the fabfilter series ohm stuff is pretty good - can anyone back this up? or know of anything else half decent?

big up in advance.

Hardware or software?

You can dl and demo this for free: http://www.filterscape.com/
Lots of ppl on the Logic forum like it... it's VST too.

For hardware you'll want to look at this:
http://www.analoguehaven.com/sherman/
One of the great filters of all time... totally insane, MIDI controllable, &c.

Just thought i'd through this out there..

Does anyone here use NI Kontakt? I been thinkin about getting it...

Is it good say, for throwing in a bass sample or something then messing with filters and manipulating the shit out of it to play over the piano roll again?

the plugs ( especially the filter) from soundtoys are really sick.

mr d-code, i would suggest that 'the others' have quite possibly the sickest filtered bass sound on road!

Scarbee Vintage Keyboard FX and Waldorf D-Pole are neat bits of software! On the free tip I'd reccomend Betabugs Crayon or the Frohmage(which I used on my old PC). Sonalksis also offer a range of filters, one of them has got a "Grimy" setting too ;)

Fabfilter stuff is always worth it.

And off topic, the Fabfilter Timeless delay is absolutely sick!

The two best filters I've ever used are Ohmforce Quad Filter and Antares Filter.

Personally I feel that Ohmforce Quad Filter is the best filter on the market. It has a dedicated ADSR, Envelope Follower and LFO per control!!!

The filters can self oscillate, which is pretty extreme imo. Filter types covered include LP/HP/BP/BR/Comb/Moog/Peaking & Ring Modulation..... If that wasn't enough, there is a decent overdrive and saturation unit per filter.

The filters can be configured in many different combinations of parallel and series.

Definately worth a look! :)

 Yes..!!

I always found the interface way to small and fidely :(

Izotope Spectron has some good lfo automation controls allowing easy wobbly sweeps tobe setup....

I still vote for Ohmforce Quadfrohmage though! :D

The Ohmforce site also has a free filter called the Fromhage that's a scaled down version of the Quad... well worth a dl, it's quality and can do some interesting things...

Yeah haven't tried the quadfrohmage i'll give it a try.
To be honest i use reaktor for most of my FX at the moment. Theres an emulator of the roland space echo in the user library and a couple of nice dub/delay FX.
Do like the Nitro's filters but obviously not as nice as a shermann (dam i want one of those!)
