Dubstep before Dubstep?

Apart from the actual Dub, what old tunes have a dubstep vibe?

I used to play this one a lot:

Depth Charge,
"Sex, Sluts And Heaven",
DC recordings, 1995

Heavy dub skankage

omni trio or photek played pitched way down or at the wrong speed always did it for me

in fact most things from moving shadow or formation records always showed early signs of what was to come for me........in terms of the space in the record being just as important

Plastique by Plastikman, vair low bass, wierd subliminal minimalisms, and nice slinky riddim.

Tune off the Advent's first album that I can't for the life of me remember the title of - huge hornlike bassline and electro stylins

try this: "Dub Love" by Master C&J, released in 88 i think. pre-acid house, vintage.
also check early Depth Charge, tune called "depth charge" and "dead by dawn", dubbed out, spooky business. a lot of it is deleted but you can still get hold of his albums on cd. well worth listening to.

wicked. got hold of pretty much every depth charge / j saul kane release on ebay after a few months of searching recently, i think i have everything now except the first Alexander's Dark Band album (Beat Vortex) which seems to be just gone forever.
apart from that, it's still all out there if you look hard enough. man is a genius.

metalboxproducts, the 10" with fluo spunk is safe on my shelf along side the rest of DC history -Except "Number 9" which I lost. Gutted! That was a killer tune.

Shonky, Talking about the legend, remember:
Depth Charge "Han Do Jin"? Even older I remember going to Rage at Heaven and Groovrider played it at 45 instead of 33...

also around that time, red ninja and 11.59 were doing similar things but from a more hip hop beat point of view

Most of the album "Delay" by Dub Tractor is fully dubstep, years ahead of its time. His later albums are very folkish and pop, only Delay is the heavy heavy. Highly recommended.

Also, lots of stuff on Wordsound Records from the mid 90's, Dr. Israel and such. I guess it was sort of technically dub, but kinda odd like that.

Lastly, there is a nice track called "Declaration" by Stereo Mc's (I know, I know) that is worth hearing. Nice bass line and dubbed feel.

Respect.
