Dubluke is Burial

If you actually bothered to check his myspace out, the guy you have deemed appropriate to 'sound out' has in fact revealed his true identity.
Why this was such a big deal to the donuts who write for your rag I have no idea, I can only assume that due to his nomination for the Mercury Music Prize this has roused media interest.
What makes me laugh is that this guy has been around for quite a few years now, yet you late-starters have only just cottoned on to the fact he makes incredible music.
Aphex Twin? Fatboy Slim? Bay City Rollers?
A truly spectacular fail on your part here I think and one that only shows you up of being utterly clueless about real music. Must try harder Mr Smart.
May I politely suggest that you continue to support the current crop of crap you write about daily and not try and interfere with music scenes/trends that you possess very little or no knowledge about. It only shows you up as being ignorant and ultimately ill-informed.
Oh, and the fact that you couldn't even work out that 'Kode' refers to Kode-9, who runs a label called Hyperdub which Burial releases on only exemplifies my point wouldn't you agree? Try www.google.com next time you are unsure of anything, its a very helpful search engine on the internet.
To finish off, may I congratulate you on sticking your oar in when not wanted and causing a great deal of hassle to a very humble and hard working musician. Well done.
Clueless idiots like Gordon Smart (delicious, the irony is delicious) should stick to what they know best, Coldplay: Keane and Amy's latest meltdown.

the guy from the Sun wrote:I hadn’t heard of Burial before his nomination. I’ve now listened to him and love his stuff.
Isn’t that the point of music?
Not according to all the dubstep fans who have emailed crying about their music being stolen from them.

The man has a point.
since when have the tabloid media been about respect in this country?spiderman wrote: but its just a lack of respect of the artist to go against his wishes and try to expose his identity, and ontop of it do a bad job causing a snowball effect of false info.
obviously he was gonna have to come clean at some point to collect the award (if he wins), but it should of been on his terms not theres.
I'm not defending the journalist really, his previous articles have been typical tabloid nonsense. But some of the reaction has been pretty comical - all this stuff is a direct result of the popularity of the album. Music is there for people to listen to, people who are into "the scene" don't have a predetermined right over the music, some seem to think they do. I do realise a lot of the reaction was because this stuff came from the Sun though, which is totally justified IMO!Joe Muggs wrote:Well there are two things going on here.Paulie wrote:the guy from the Sun wrote:I hadn’t heard of Burial before his nomination. One is the question of whether all publicity is good publicity. That's endlessly debatable - and will be discussed for ever on boards like this, with opinions ranging from the dogmatic "keep it underground" brigade to people who think that anything that makes money for musicians is good. Obviously as a journo myself, I am pro-publicity, but I do respect the wishes of underground musicians for anonymity - it may be that they are signing on, have a job that doesn't square well with making what is, let's face it, dirty drugs music, don't like attracting police attention, feel that the music is more important than their face, or simply don't LIKE attention. It becomes more difficult beyond a certain level of fame, but as Kraftwerk have shown, it is possible to maintain long and hugely mainstream careers without putting your personalities up front... I think the trajectory Burial was taking it wasn't going to be sustainable maintaining his anonymity anyway, and I am guessing he and Kode 9 knew that - after all, the label has to nominate an album for the Mercury Prize and I doubt Steve would've done that if Burial wasn't ready for the publicity that inevitably comes with a nomination. These are all complex factors and can only really be discussed on a case-by-case basis as every artist's situation, needs and wants are different.
The other is that Gordon Smart has shown his arse by printing a load of nonsense and instead of either admitting it or dropping the subject is now having a go at people who pointed this out.

its an arrogant imposition of the common-sense, as if everyone views the world the way he does. who would begrudge him the enjoyment of the music? but trying to impose some impossibly simple-minded idea of 'the point of music'... come onPaulie wrote:The man has a point.the guy from the Sun wrote:I hadn’t heard of Burial before his nomination. wtf this isn't the rave scene in the 80s. How many dubstep artists have had police attention - aside from Rusko's run ins with the fashion police- due to their names being out?
would you say it isn't and can't be anything more complicated than that?!Paulie wrote:Music is there for people to listen to
