Lost the steel drums early,so it's not quite as soca as it started if at all, but the name stuck.
Bass may be a bit heavy, my monitors go down to 20Hz so I may have gotten a bit carried away, but careful with the wee speakers
Any feedback appreciated

LOL.
Not given it a proper listen yet, but will. I was listening to your last tune, nahil, and it did sound bass heavy, slightly unbalanced. Give it another mix maybe

Listening...nice jittery beat although sounds slightly strange, maybe a slightly more accented snare is needed? Really nice sub and love the extra break when it comes in 16 after the drop...great synths as well...maybe you could make the sections sound less forced by gradually taking out beats at the end of the phrase rather than everything stopping dead...or if it is stopping dead maybe some reverb or echo to blend the sections.
Piece works well although 1/2 way through the main body the snare sounds like you've layered 2 together but they have different attack times so lack the impact again.....nice breakdown with the hi-pass filter on the drums....you could even make more of this with slightly wider sweeps especially in the last 4 or 8 bars of the breakdown....maybe cut it out just before the 2nd drop to help accentuate it or something.....
That sub is sweet and the pads are great...the whole tune works really nicely, just a couple of small bits to help everything work together and keep the interest going so the beat doesn't ever feel monotonous....

Cheers for the comments, got what you hear here nailed in six houirs, which is pretty fast for me, but I felt that overall it held together quite well. As I'm gradually picking up the production techniques and make more sense of them, I can hear what I need to improve mixwise and with the arrangements, so the feedback's all appreciated.

Hey Shonky,
Seeing as you have consistently given me feedback, I feel duty-bound to chime in here.
The atmosphere and the groove are great. I found the breakdown around 4:00 to be especially effective. I can't comment on the sub, as it's late at night here and I am listening on headphones.
My first suggestion would be to examine the flam that you are doing with the layered snares. Perhaps use it less often, or let one sound dominate to make it feel more like a regular drummer playing a flam.
My other suggestion is to create some fills/variations. I appreciate the layering that you are doing, but the variation may be too subtle to carry the drums through the whole piece.
Six hours... nice work.

Heavy sub. The only other thing i can really say is more drum edits and switch ups. Other than that, dark moody, marvellous, good job squire.

got a fucking cool rhythm, complex yet effective
the sub is a little too loud for me but its a deep deep tune that gets me moving and in my current state thats a very good acheivement

Real sweet man! I love the beat and the layering. The sub is deep and weighty.
I do hear that thing with the snare. It works but is maybe overkill, possibly try just a couple of times every 16 bars maybe?
Excellent track tho!!!!

i like this, the low end is really nice and full, the drum patterns are interesting, the only critisism is that the drums remind me of the redrum in reason abit, i think thats to do with some of the the purcussion being pitched up and not enough dynamics applied to make different elements of the kit punch through in the mix. Saying that though the mixdown sounds preety cohesive. 'a subtle moody roller'

Yeah, the drums need varying/layering better, they were all done in the emulator x and the exs24 in Logic. I thought it better to nail the arrangement of the tune and then add variations afterwards, so this is pretty much garnish free, so I'll get onto that later (although I've cleverly started a new one in the meantime, and there's that remix to do, social life (??), eating, etc).
