Benny Ill has been producing music for the past 15 years under many aliases including High plains drifter, DBC and the dub laced sounds of Bill & Ben. He is currently working on productions with some of the finest artists in today’s dubstep scene including Loefah and Mala of Digital Mystikz and Geiom of Berkane Sol records.
Of course his ongoing production work as part of the Horsepower Productions collective continues to date, with new projects currently in progress with Nassis and Lev.Jnr for 12” and CD release in the near future….
Benny is also a resident DJ at the FWD>> weekly night in London as well as the celebrated DMZ nights for which he has played since the outset. Having performed as a DJ in various guises since 1993, Benny has played in many countries of the world for underground and commercial club and festival promotions, achieving a high record of critical acclaim and a trusted reputation for his unique approach to music genre selection.
Horsepower Productions are truly unique. Many credit them along side El-B for the creation of the genre that's it 'Dubstep' Their debut LP 'In Fine Style' was released in November 02 and was a collection of 6 new tracks - making up a double 12" (with bonus re-issue 'Gorgon Sound') and a single 13 track CD. The CD contained these seven tracks and a collection of other Horsepower 12"s now mainly out of press and highly sought after.
One things for sure.. they"ve consistently delighted and surprised critics with their constantly innovative approach to production. What"s most apparent when you hear their music is a diversity of influence. All born and bred Londoners - the roots of Horsepower’s sound is as culturally diverse as the city’s inhabitants. Their inspiration draws on UK Garage, Techno, House, Dub, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Jungle, Funk, Soul and a heavy dose of global cinema
