hey i been using renoise to make my tunes for a while now, along with a few native instruments vst's!
im trying to work out wether to go to logic pro an get a hackintosh, or switch to a pc app like cubase or some other pc host?
what are peoples opinions on the differences between the 2,and can anyone reccomend one!
renoise is sik i love the interface to lay out my tracks, but it lacks in the effects department and the automation can be a bit tricky somtimes!
is there much difference in the sound quality between the 2,or would it depend on the hardware im using? (logic pro or cubase)
any advice wud be cool? my terminolgy is shit with this kinda stuff!

Try them both out and go with what suits your workflow.
I use Ableton Live and works perfects for me. For somebody else it could be the worst app out there.

I know a few people on here who really like renoise and swear by it.
I think Misk is a renoise user?
I know Akema is and I think Vaccine is too, though not to sure.
Its all about preference, it does the job for some people, some it don't.
I used FL6, then finally bought 7, moved to 8 within the last 2 years.
Bought reason when I bought FL7 and just fully moved to Reason and I have no problems at all with either of those, they're both blinding pieces of software but I personally prefer Reason for its semi-hands on rack feel they've gone for, it feels a lot more interactive.

if youre going to give cubase/logic a go, try reaper instead... its (almost) free... but the fully enabled trial never runs out... just has a popup asking for you to buy it every time

Renoise is a lovely little app. Esh uses it too, and he and I have collabed on a few tunes. It's refreshingly easy to use, once you understand trackers, and i find that it sounds very clean as well. as far as effects go, i can understand your frustration. Even renoise's best reverb, mp reverb 2, is still a little mechanical. I use renoise with reaktor a LOT, as well as a little albino 3. Most of the effects you can either download or make with reaktor are really really good. I've used some delay effects combined with reverb effects in reaktor, for instance, with devastating effect (pardon the pun).
It's a solid program, and I think, having tried a "free" copy of logic 8, it's much more intuitive than logic. Logic 8, really seems to be great for film music, and commercial pop/hip hop production. I'm SURE you can use it for producing anything, but i find it's synths really hard to program for me.. i guess i'm just used to reaktor. I've grown to disdain horizontal timeline music sequencers too. It's too tempting to arrange things into nice little blocks... i hate blocks.
I would have to say the ONE thing that i dont like about renoise is the lack of quantization. I'd LOVE to be able to plug in a midi keyboard and just play away, and quantize afterwords. Though, once i got used to programming things by hand with the keyboard, it became a moot point.

i'm rocking live 5.01 still
but i find that i don't use session view hardly at all, so i am considering switching to logic 8 on a mac. probably not though, i'm lazy
